This is an outstanding experience, especially for people from 50 and up (if you go the whole trip - 11 hours on the ship). Wonderful landscape the whole journey, through several manmade canal locks. Most of them manually operated. I brought with me a book for reading if it got too boring - didn't even think of it at all! Visit their home page for more information and travel suggestions, which are many. If you read Norwegian, it could be wise to buy a written guide on board (NOK200) with lots of costly information to read when sailing on. Buy that one at once when you go on board. It covers the whole journey, and more. The crew are all polite and well doing. Restaurant on board is super! However, there are some major flaws that pulls this tour from a sparkling 5-star to a medium 3-star experience in my opinion. May be even lower. Smoking is allowed on deck! The ship is certified for 180 passengers (reduced nowadays because of Corona) - it is a rather small boat, and it is impossible to not be inflicted by those who smokes. That should not be possible in year 2020... If you go for the buss return from Dalen to Skien, in the worst case be prepared to stay on your two feet the whole journey (more than 2 hours), or not coming with the bus at all (could be full). Not acceptable these days thinking of Covid-19. The offer with bus return is sort of standing alone, since you must take an ordinary bus with limited seats for boat passengers, depending on the amount of ordinary bus passengers. You have no guarantee coming with it! Next bus is the next morning. To avoid this, be the first person to go on shore when the ship embanks!!

Visiting Telemark and wonder what to do? If it is canal trip season (May through August, if not longer) you definitely have to try this. You can select a full day, inclusive a hotel night in Dahlen Hotel, or you can select parts of the canal. Doesn't matter, you will enjoy this trip. Of his worth what you pay. You can buy food and drinks onboard, but my experience is that this cost a bit too much...

We had a superb trip on m/s Victoria from Ulefoss to Dalen and back. The views and scenery were outstanding as is Dalen Hotel (although a bit overpriced even for Norway). We spent the nigh before our canal trip in the Lock Keepers' house at Vrangfoss which was also wonderful and Ronny & Mats are wonderful hosts both there and at Slusemesteren Veranda. In all a very special trip

We took the full journey from Skien to Dalen with the family. 4 children from 5 to 13. The first 5 hours went well, but the kids found it a bit boring the last 5 hours without any locks and the beautiful scenarie entertained the adults. The food was good but it it an idea to bring some reserves.

The only thing they care about is canal ships! They have no respect to other boats who paid a lot of money to sail there. Be aware that 1,5 h waiting time can easily get to 3h without bigger explanations! Nature around is nice but when people in locks are so rude and ruining vacation then it’s not worth it. Shame. 😒 Never doing it again!
