The fortress is well worth the visit by its self. There is a lot of norwegian history there, and also lots to see. However, you also get one of the most beeautiful views over Trondheim centrum which makes this a must visit when in Trondheim.

It is an interesting historical attraction that I knew nothing about before arriving. Unfortunately the museum inside is average at best but it is free. One of the main highlights of the fortress is the view of the city below. It's worth the walk up...More

Very long and difficult way to arrive. Up there, not so much. A small building. Much better fortress in Europe. The only interesting thing is in the way there is the first cycle lift!

We happened to be there May 8th, which is an important day in Norwegian history because the German occupation during WWII ended that day so we were able to watch and enjoy the celebration of that.

We went up in the morning via the stairs to the TOP, leaving trails of foot prints in the snow. Nice view from the TOP and there even a restaurant there, we even witness a wedding couple taking wedding shots.
