Great outdoor museum of historical houses in the region. The curation was good. Lots of interesting and gorgeous houses to see.

This is a good solution for visiting Ålesund. They have both a Boat & small houses - in a very unique area.

A well-preserved collection of ancient watercraft, settler's buildings to explore and a new museum/ interpretive centre make this stop a must-see in Alesund. Low entry fee/donation. Wheelchair accessible. Cafe and souvenir shop on site.

There are a lot of interesting things to see but so little time to see everything. It would be very interesting for people like me who are interested in the Vikings era. So my advice for those who are planning to see the museum, take a whole day it is an open air museum so be prepared for the weather. We went here in August, so it was very warm and sunny. I find the entrance in every building confusing. I have seen few museums and there is a path you take so you can see everything. There are a lot of uphill and downhill so it would be nice to have some plan given to tourist which to see first just to make sure they do not skip anything. Also, ticket counter is also not strategic and not well-labeled. Anyone can come in without paying a ticket.

We had looked forward to visiting this museum, though struggled to get correct info for accessing by means of local bus. Better signposting of local bus routes etc would help a lot, or better info on website. We enjoyed seeing all the old properties, even if we did have to spend the afternoon dodging crocodiles of people from the cruise ships. A bit more interpretation in English at the mediaeval settlement would be great too. Left the building with boats till last and then had to rush round in a hurry, which was a shame, as we only realised, once there, how interesting they were!
