    Interesting and well placed castle
Substantial if compact ruin with much of interest. Great views from battlements. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, very welcoming. Parking can be difficult nearby, suggest parking at Bracelet Bay and enjoy walking along the Mumbles prom to the castle, with an ice cream en route.

    A proper castle
A Norman castle in Wales. It still has a lot of interior walls and you can get to the window in the chapel on the new floor. Lots of wall walks available. Looks stunning with the pink valerian growing out of the walls. Accessible by bus from Swansea. Steep walk up the motte from the town. Great views. Friendly staff

    Great for a Short Visit
Norman castle in decent condition. So many interesting books and crannies to explore. We arrived right at opening and were able to go on a free (!!) 45 minute tour, which was well presented and very interesting. Had no idea about any of the norman history in south wales! Lesser known but very much worth the visit for the kind staff, lovely castle, and stellar views of the bay.

Welcomed by the volunteers who were so keen to share the history. Beautiful views from the hill and castle - not to be missed. Fascinating tour from Sian who was engaging, fun and mischievous, an absolute treasure ! Thanks

An interesting place to visit whilst staying in Mumbles. I was about 1-2 hours in here having a good look around and had an interesting lady tell me about the history of the castle.

It is not often that we make a visit to a ruined castle, but with a couple of hours before we could reasonably sit and have a late afternoon glass of wine, we decided to take a walk here to this castle on the hill above Mumbles.

On arrival the staff at the entrance said our visit needed to be brief, as there wasn’t going to be sufficient staff on duty (a member of staff couldn’t fulfil an upcoming duty). We were told that there was almost an hour before the site had to be closed. Despite this we felt we should make the best of our walk here, pay a concessionary fee, and have a wander around and into the castle.

The castle is named after the village and parish in which it is located. It was first built in the 12th century. Over the centuries has been rebuilt, expanded and restored, with the last restoration to preserve the castle earlier in this century. That work has established a visitors centre inside the main castle. Most of the rest of the castle is in partial ruins with, reasonably well constructed, supporting concrete and steel.

We walked around for about 45 minutes and some of the views were quite spectacular. Being pleased with our visit we thanked staff for their kind assistance.
