Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice spot to hang around dusk to catch the picturesque sunset by the bay /pier area - very nice sight in good weather. The area is home to Seatran Ferry pier for crossing over to Surat Thani. Most shops are closed at night so best to hang around the area during the day. Mostly nice quaint areas to visit for some lunch and nice coffee. Pop community market stalls do happen weekly (I'm not so sure how often), selling a variety of street food and drinks. Nathon is the place for both the locals and visitors.

Nathon is a nice town to visit during the day. In the evening a lot of shops are closed. The shops and restaurants are close to the pier and there is a nice foodmarket. Prices are a lot lower than in the rest of Samui.

Ko Samui Thailand is also known as Samui Island. It is the latest resort area promoted within Thailand. First there was Pattaya in the era of the Vietnam War, then Phuket Island and now Samui is being developed as a tourist resort. It still has a long way to go to match Phuket and Pattaya, but the potential is there. Chaweng Beach is the main hub of activity at the moment.
Your Cruise ship anchors out from the shore some considerable distance as the sea closer to shore is very shallow. You are ferried ashore by ships tenders and local ferryboats – a trip of about 30 minutes. You land at the fisherman wharf area (Na Thon Pier) among a fleet of fishing boats of all sorts, shapes and sizes. They also serve as home for the families of the fishermen as well as being used for fishing.
The anchorage was crowded when we arrived as the there had been a storm and the sea was too rough for the low decked fishing boats. the scene was complete along with one boat wallowing submerged in the shallows
Along the pier is a row of air conditioned coaches to take you touring. Your tour takes you to a variety of attractions depending on your selections and in our case ended up on the other side of the Island for an hour or so shopping at Chaweng Beach before returning us to the wharf and waiting tenders or local ferry boats, for the trip back to the ship.

Quite frankly, everything is always so disorganized and dirty....with this being the major lifeblood to outlying islands & the virus issue, I don't know why someone doesn't step in & manage the situation. In particular, I am shocked that even the elderly are asked to walk a narrow gangplank when boarding vessels...after lining up in the heat (nowhere to sit) and waiting for 30+min.

Lots of boats stop here and the concrete is good to walk on.
There’s also a night market at the end which is really good. Recommended for families and eating.

We visited Koh Samui on a Princess cruise and, as it’s a large ship we were brought ashore via tenders.
There are few facilities but there is a large undercover area which some of the ferries use which provides shade & basic toilet facilities.
The process off the ship worked well enough but on the return, when our bus arrived the queue was several hundred people long. Rather than stand in the mid-afternoon sun we took to the shade and waited an hour or so for all the buses to disgorge the Princess passengers then joined the line, right at the end.

Not the best Pier but it does serves its purpose and gets our transportation needs covered.
Once out, it’s splendidly located right in Ban Nathon or Nathon Town with all the accommodation and restaurants in offer.

The pier itself is exactly as described a pier where ferries come in and out. You can walk along the pier to get a view back to the fishing town of Nathon. There are a tumble of shops along the waterfront including restaurants. This spot is popular to view the sunset. They really need to clean up the waterfront here as there is lots of garbage in the water. Further back along the main street is a smaller Tesco Lotus and a number of pharmacies and local services including doctor and many shops selling tourist gear and souvenirs. Further along still is the wet market, worth a walk around. If you need mending there's a little lady using an original treddle sewing machine just down the lane metres from the main road. The smaller streets leading between the main road and water front road have many massage and spa businesses.

Short of making a quick trip to Bang Po for its idyllic and scenic view, Nathon pier and its vicinity are great places to hang around for that short duration. If you are a photography enthusiast or a historic buff, the whole place has a nostalgic feeling and a unique charm; plenty of eateries too. Great to soak in the local atmosphere. Enjoy!
