- SL10026 contributionsGreat fun for allGreat fun for children & adults too. Clean & lots to keep the children amused. Food very tasty & reasonably priced. You can bring a picnic if you prefer, plenty of space to sit out.Visited April 2023Written 24 April 2023
- Maggie S66 contributionsGreat for enthusiasts, large or small scaleLovely setting, with very large carpark. Friendly staff, well priced admission. - K_Meister1983115 contributionsAbsolutely superb!I came here recently with my 4 year old daughter and I’m quite annoyed with myself for not visiting sooner! It was absolutely fantastic. It’s really easy to get to with ample parking spaces. Every member of staff we spoke to from the entrance gate, to the train drivers to the cafe staff were all friendly and engaging. There are loads of lovely little picnic areas so even if it’s a busy day it doesn’t feel crowded, there’s lots of play areas scattered around and we especially loved the maze. We had such a great day that we even joined up to the annual membership so we can visit whenever we want. I can’t recommend this place enough, you must visit.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 August 2023
- hlfinnisLondon, United Kingdom3 contributionsPerfect couple of hours for small childrenWe went on a sunny Saturday morning with a 2 and 3 year old and really enjoyed it. Quite small but perfect with small children. A few different play areas (one more for toddlers) with picnic tables, some shaded. Snack bar is fairly basic and has a very reasonably priced children’s lunch box (proper sized sandwich, apple, juice, crisps and Kitkat for less than £5). Steam service mini railway runs at weekends; diesel during the week. The engine drivers are a father and son team and very enthusiastic. Good family fun!Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 September 2023
- david w1 contributionA wonderful afternoon with the family. We had a fantastic afternoon visiting for the first time. It’s very reasonably priced, the staff were extremely polite and helpful and the whole site was very clean and well presented. My two children (6yrs & 2yrs) loved the play equipment and we all enjoyed the train ride so much that we had to have a second ride! There was a good choice on the lunch menu and the food was served promptly which was delicious. Overall a 10/10 brilliant tripVisited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023

We have visited the railway many times and our son who suffers with sensory issues loves it. How ever we were so disappointed this morning to arrive at the railway to it being closed for the winter. Until the end of march, how ever everywhere online clearly states that the station is currently open at normal hours. Perhaps you should update your hours online so as not to disappointed any one. We had travelled over 45 minutes to get there to then have to turn around with one extremely sad 3 year old.

A very good simple circuit railway with a very decent length. Excellent range of locos in brilliant condition. The entry price includes all manner of things mostly for children but at 70+ years old and interested in trains I think the entry fee a bit on the steep side. I would like there to be maybe a train only ticket for enthusiasts. Asking for a shed visit / close up shots of parked locos was definite NoNo. Shame but one gets used to rules is rules!.
Great place I am sure for kids but not great from train enthusiast oldies.

Took our two year old grandson and it was perfect. So much to do besides the train ride, spent ages in the toddler’s area. Extremely well run by the friendliest staff.

My sister & I went with her 5 year old twins.
Parking was easy.
Kids were really happy, loved the train sets to watch, especially the outdoor Thomas, the ride on the train, the play parks, the maze, the walk round the pond (great idea having mini play parks along the way!)
The bird hide was also fab, with posters letting us know what we might see, plus fishermen dotted around- we saw 1 fish being released back into the pond & another fisherman letting a girl try out fishing!!
Staff were happy & friendly.
Top tip- take plenty of 20p pieces for the trains to activate!
Only downside- the "driveable" train that you could control it's speed wasn't working. We reported it & she said she'd get someone to it, but a few hours later we heard another customer report the same issue- they hadn't put a sign up, or tried to cover the payment slot to discourage people from trying to use it! 😔
Will definitely be going back again! 😁

Visiting my daughter and her family so this was very much for the children.
They are regular visitors and I can see why.
Play areas for the children are brilliant and then the train ride itself was very nice indeed. Right around the lake, through the tunnel and over the bridge - great fun. Only criticism would be is that you only get one ride for your entrance money.
Then a walk around the lake which is interspersed with more play areas so the children don't get bored with the walk itself, although that doesn't take much more than a quarter of an hour anyway.
Took a picnic so no idea of food quality or value but we all had ice creams and there was no hiking of prices for their 'captive' audience which I thought was very good.
Will certainly return on our next visit.
We certainly didn't feel 'ripped off' with the entrance prices either and my daughter has a yearly family ticket which works out very reasonable.
Would highly recommend and, in fact, would say it is unmissable.

Yes, I’m sure they’ll have fun however as previously said, you’ll probably enjoy more.

Is there a lower age limit? i.e. Can my 10-month-old sit on my lap and go on the train?

Silversurfer, you forgot to put seniors AND children, same price, it is NOT a reduction for entry, it is ticket with one ride £5.25 adults, children and seniors £4.75, family ticket £18.50, under 3s free entry, £2 each if you want additional rides, OR above prices if you want unlimited rides. Minature trains in glass cases and childrens rides are 20 pence.
