About The Great Orme Tramway
The Great Orme Tramway is now closed for the season and will be back open in March 2022. **Please check the website for further information about the COVID safety measures and what to expect before you visit.** The Great Orme Tramway is Britain’s only funicular, or cable-hauled, tramway that travels on public roads. Delighting visitors since it opened in 1902. The unique journey begins at Victoria Station, a short distance from Llandudno’s seaside and pier. Climb aboard one of our beautifully restored tramcars and start your ascent through the winding roads of the Great Orme. Views from the summit are breath-taking. On a clear day, it’s possible to see as far as the Isle of Man, Blackpool and the Lake District! Well-behaved dogs welcome. The tramcars are open and the Great Orme is 207m (670 feet) high - remember to bring something warm to wear.

This was great fun, and we're really glad we took this route to the summit - really this was the highlight of the trip to Great Orme! The views are wonderful and definitely worth it. The trip itself isn't too long (about 15-20 minutes), but worth wrapping up warm as the tram is open to the wind.

Great bit of vintage fun, get the tram at one end, change half way and got to the top. Ride takes about 15 min, the views from the top are spectra

Took a trip up to the summit of the Great Orme on the tramway. We enjoyed this immensely. It was a rather busy half term Tuesday. Great view's at the summit. Even if it was a rather windy day. Refreshments available at the summit too. The halfway summit station is rather interesting and informative. Recommend a visit for all the family.

Great way to get to the summit, the experience was easy and seemed pretty straightforward, and we really enjoy the heritage factor. However, afternoon travellers should beware of the timings of the last tram back down. We set off up the Orme at 1530 and the board in the station said trams were on the hour, twenty past the hour and then twenty to the hour. Having looked at the website in advance, we had already read that the operating times were up to 5pm off peak. When we returned to the summit station at 1635 to get back down, we were told that the last tram had already left. We were shown a small chalk board that is displayed on the opposite side of the tram platform, not even remotely close to where you alight on arrival, which says ‘last tram 1630’. When I questioned the 5pm running time we were told this means the last tram will get to to the last station at 5pm. Despite all of this we were kindly offered an additional journey down, which we took gratefully to the half way point. However, having become acutely aware of how much of a nuisance this was we decided it would be better if we walked down from the halfway point. We were past the station at the bottom before 5pm (even on foot) - making the 5pm closure time seem completely irrelevant as the last trip would have been down much sooner than the closing time. It was still well worth the trip, hence the 4* - but from a customer experience perspective it just left us feeling a bit cold. Advice would be that the last times need to be much clearer in the summit station and also on the website, and also verbally relayed - especially to passengers making a trip later in the day.

Thankyou for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your return journey down the Orme did not run as smoothly as your trip up. We have taken on board your comments and are working to make the signage for the closure times clearer for future passengers both at the stations and on the website.

What a fantastic Tram journey up to the Great Orme. A traditional Tram line which travels, steeply up through the town, onto the open space of the Great Orme National Park. The views at the summit are very special, and well worth the quaint journey up. At the top there is a cafe and gift shop, however I would advise if you are planning on staying a while to take your own picnic as the cafe was dated, run down and didn't offer anything nice to eat.
