About
St John's Methodist Church is housed in a beautiful listed building on Llandudno's vibrant Mostyn Street, right at the heart of the town. It enjoys a reputation for sound preaching, good singing and a warm welcome for the many visitors who join us during the holiday season. The church was built in 1866 as part of a special drive to establish churches in the new holiday resorts of Victorian Britain. In the 1990s the church was beautifully restored - it is noted for its wooden ceiling and glorious modern stained glass windows. We are also wellknown for our male voice choir concerts, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the holiday season. Worship is at 11am every Sunday, and the church is also open to visitors on Thursday afternoons after our healing service at 1:45pm, and on Friday mornings when we hold our coffee mornings with extra-delicious homemade cakes...

Beautiful church. We went in a few times to see the Lego exhibition, which was really impressive and definitely worth a visit. The people we spoke to were friendly.
Would visit again.

Me and my friend stood at the door of Saint John's and heard the last refrains of a Male Voice Choir last Thursday evening. We couldn't attend the concert as we had the dog with us. The Choir I heard were the Penryhn Male Voice Choir. Through a closed glass door I was able to hear the sublime sound of almost angelic tones. I was literally moved to tears.

At the very end of the concert one of the church staff kindly opened the doors to let me hear properly. I was blown away. Of course, the final hymn was Cwm Rhondda Guide me, o thou great redeemer Arglwydd, arwain trwy'r anialwwch popularly known as Bread of Heaven. Again, I was moved to tears and overwhelmed by this beautiful rendition.

The church regularly hosts Male Voice Choir concerts every Thursday evening, not sure until when in the season though? I would suggest if you are staying in Llandudno to go and listen. For one sweet moment I felt close to all things divine. The Penryhn choir were magnificent! As was the Harpist. There be angels in St John's on Thursday evenings.

We had been before and so were on the lookout for it as we walked along Mostyn Street. You can get a coffee and a piece of home made Barra Brith - delicious. A friendly welcome too.

Called in as thanks Methodist church had a spire and beautiful stonework. It is a beautiful, modern looking church but is in fact quite old. Very clean and beautiful stain glass windows. Our only upset was we couldn’t leave a donation as we had no cash ( it’s getting less to use these days) and cards not used.

Visited mid-week so unable to attend a service. Visited the craft fair in the Church hall, had a lovely cup of coffee and bara brith. Saw a concert advertised for the following evening but sadly unable to attend.

The spire of St John’s dominates Mostyn Street and you can’t miss it. The church was built in 1866 for the rapidly developing tourist trade. It had a major restoration in the 1980s when the stained glass windows and pews were replaced. It is a very attractive modern church with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Don’t miss the coffee and cakes in the church hall on Friday mornings. The homemade cakes and drinks are very reasonably priced at £1, although the toasted tea cakes are £1.50 but did smell very good!

Amateur, for charity, performances. Very polished, smiley and enjoyable. When the whole group sang together that was my favourite part of the performance.
As it was the last performance of the season, charities received their donations which was lovely to be a part of.
A lovely friendly church with amazing stained glass windows.

The church has regular concerts. We went to listen to the Penrhyn Male Voice Choir and Twm Tegid as a soloist. There is only one word to describe the evening FANTASTIC. I think that we have experienced the start of a great career for the young singer Twm Tegid. DIOLCH YN FAWR(Thanks a lot)

We were passing and heard the wonderful male voice choir start a concert, what a treat! We didn't want to walk straight in during the first song so stood and waited until they finished and clapped, partly through appreciation and partly to try and draw attention to the staff to gain admission, there were plenty seats available and we were keen as mustard with cash in hand. A couple of attendees asked the staff to close the door which they duly did.. we tried to ask for admission and show our appreciation and the door was closed in our faces. No dialogue. Unfortunately this reflects my experience of trying to join a male voice choir in my hometown 5 years previously..newcomers are simply unwelcome (I attended for 6 months, once a week, paid, without being allowed to even speak!) It's such a shame as this dying artform is being taken away from any genuine interest by anyone "young" (me and my wife are both 45!)
I had to leave this review due to my frustration with the male voice community. It's exclusivity will be it's death which is a tragedy. The church will become repurposed and it will be a direct result of this snobbery but the blame will be diverted to anything else. So sad

Thank you for your review. Something very odd has happened here. Two sister churches run the male voice choir concerts, with choirs being invited to take part from all around the area. So I need to make clear, first of all, that it is the church people who host the concerts and welcome people in, nothing to do with the choirs themselves, so it is not fair to accuse the male voice choir community of snobbery as a result of your experience this week. The churches obviously want people to come in to the concerts - that's why we run them. The churches have recently received a letter from our Welsh Assembly Member thanking us for hosting the concerts and supporting the town's holiday offering, as well as our contribution to supporting the male voice choirs as part of Wales' unique culture. The churches regularly welcome people in after the start of concerts (they start at 8pm, doors open from 7.15pm), so I cannot understand what has happened here. If it is the Thursday concert this week you wanted to come in to, then you missed a treat. I was the chairperson yesterday evening so know that it was a great concert - a wonderful friendly choir (Flint) who explained how they were a community made up of native Welsh speakers and English speakers and that everyone was made welcome. What's more, the audience was made up (as it always is) of both residents from the area and holiday-makers from all over the world. Your review implies that it was some sort of closed-shop for male voice choir people only but that is simply not true. Again, I cannot understand what has happened in this situation. I am sorry that you had a bad experience and that it reinforced your existing bad feeling about male voice choirs. I can only say that the people who attended the concert last night were delighted by the whole experience. I got plenty of really positive feedback from them. I too am sad. I wish you had been able to enjoy the concert with us. Please give us another try next time you are in lovely Llandudno. If you want to have a word with me if you do plan to be in town again, please contact the church office and we can arrange to meet up and discuss what happened so that we can ensure it does not happen again. Thank you.
