Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the ancient port churches in Ipswich, it is really great that this redundant church has been turned into something else for the Community, whilst leaving some of the church artefacts within the building. I had relatives (before my time) associated with the church, so there is an inevitable poignancy when visiting (so I am declaring an interest!), and it is good to see some of the records available. Once the West side of the Waterfront is properly re-developed, it will be a great walk up from the Waterfront, drop into St Peter's church, and then go up St Peter's Street.

We are glad you enjoyed your visit to St Peter's - we too look forward to the redevelopment of the waterfront to improve the journey up to the town centre.

What an excellent use for a redundant church. A perfect setting for music.Accoustics good. We have been to classical recitals but this time it was the Annual British Legion Poppy Day concert and service. An event not to be missed.

Open today as part of the Ipswich Maritime Festival; a beautiful old church now a centre for music and the arts. Highly recommended.

I have been to several jazz concerts here and the atmosphere is brilliant, I have seen some really good jazz bands for £10. I have also been to craft fairs here and usually stop to admire the tapestries which have a lot of detail. A lovely building in itself

We went to see Kevin Pearce, supported by Izzy's Daughter, there on Saturday night and really liked the intimacy and ambience of the church as a music venue. Smaller than Colchester Arts Centre (another church- St Mary's- which has an amazing life now as a venue for comedy, music, farmers markets and all sorts of wonderful things) but very well placed for becoming a hub for live music in Ipswich- nearby parking is available by the cinema complex and it's convenient for eats/pub etc before or after. I thought the acoustics were good, but what is also nice is that the venue can be set with tables (as it was on saturday) or also with rows of chairs. You can get a beer, wine or coffee at very reasonable prices during concerts, and from friendly and lovely people. Also there are tempting exhibits about the history of the building and the area, which are a lovely aside if you are interested in those things. It's a great use of a significant building. Church Commissioners please note - these buildings are part of our British landscape and history and life and have amazing potential for all aspects of community life. I think it may be free to visit if it is open 'in itself@ but obviously if there is an event, there may/will be a charge. we paid £10 for our concert tickets- which is a great deal for amazing live music.

Although we're in an area of building works, some being completed, some not, St Peter's is a vibrant building with many concerts, arts and heritage events taking place throughout the year.
Unfortunately as we are manned entirely by volunteers we are not able to open all of the time, particularly during the winter months, when we are only open Wednesdays between 10am and 3.30pm. For 2013 we are also open the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month.
We are open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 3.30pm between May and September.

We have lived in Ipswich for over 30 years yet this was our first visit. A beautiful church dating back to medieval times. The font as you go in is 14th century. The church is now used for exhibitions and music concerts. At the time of writing it is holding and displaying the amazing Ipswich Charter Hangings. A series of embroidered hangings showing the development of Ipswich through the centuries. A real labour of love and very hard work over three years. Outstanding quality. Well worth seeing before it moves. You can buy postcards of the hangings. Volunteers are in the church to show different aspects. Booklets are for sale about the area and interesting historical things. A REAL MUST if you are in the area.

Thank you for the lovely review, we're glad you enjoyed your visit and in particular the Ipswich Charter Hangings.
The hangings have been on permanent display since we opened back in 2008 so there's plenty of time for everyone to pop in to have a look at them!

I have wondered in here a couple of times on my way for lunch, both times when craft fairs were on. Picked up a couple of nice bits at the fairs but the building itself is pretty interesting with lots of fascinating info and history.

Although not an official place of worship anymore.
I never realised this is such a beautiful church!
Came in here due to the Saints beer and cudef fest and was amazed at the beautiful carvings and large glass stained window, unusual shaped font and wooden floor.
Ideal place to have this beer and cider tasting tho I'm sure not all would agree.
Heritage of our town is something I need to take in more.
I'm happy to see that this is still open and used by the public if not for the purpose it was built for.

Glad you enjoyed the Beer & Cider Festival and the beauty of St Peter's.
We hope you can visit again either to find out more about the history of the building and the local area or to sample more great beers, ciders or wines at one of the future festivals!

It is free to view the Ipswich Charter Hangings here. If you like modern tapestries these are outstanding and some of the best I have ever seen. They also introduce the long and interesting history of Ipswich and the river Orwell in a very accessible and informative way.

We're glad you enjoyed viewing the Ipswich Charter Hangings.
We think they are a great asset to Ipswich and are very proud to be the home to them, giving everyone a chance to see such great craftsmanship and a visual insight into how Ipswich has progressed through the years.
