Night out
Mar 2018 • Friends
The Railway is a community. All out for a great night. The staff are witty and edgy, they add to a proper pub atmosphere. You feel part of an extended social group. The music is varied and always worth a spin. As a foreigner abroad couldn’t ask for a better welcome.

Recently visited with friends. Exceptional service, exceptional people. The cleanliness of the pub did not go unnoticed, have never seen a pub this clean and the toilets - wow. Music for every taste, have seen around 5/6 bands here now and have never been dissapointed. Drinks are very cheap!! Bar staff very efficient and friendly. Will be back again again and again.

I haven't been to the Railway since the heady days of the mid to late 80's when I was a regular at gigs. Last night I visited to see The Feelgood Band and was more than pleasantly surprised to walk back into an authentic pub gig venue. There was a real feeling of nostalgia and a now unique atmosphere of a proper live music pub, long lost now across the UK. A small but sufficient stage, good ales, friendly staff and plenty of room to dance. The great joy for me was the sound of red hot RnB guitars and the squeal of a blues harmonica, its been a long time but I am coming back

Wishbone Ash
Oct 2017 • Friends
Booked up to see Wishbone Ash. Was surprised they were playing such a small venue but what a treat it was. The staff are friendly and efficient. Beer good and reasonably priced. Door staff very good and welcoming. I have been a Wishbone Ash fan for 45 years but never seen them live. This was an amazing concert and you could tell the band loved the intimate atmosphere and played their hearts out. I was rocking all the way home. Would definitely visit again.

Live Music
Jul 2017 • Friends
Had an amazing night at the railway watching live bands the atmosphere was amazing. So glad it's back open does take me back to early 90's. Beer garden is lovely and staff are friendly enough still can see a difference between new people and regulars but you get that anywhere. Would have given 5 the only downside was I ordered the same drink all night and paid 3 different prices as the night wore on.

The Camelfoot Raiders at The Railway 🐪😊
Visited The Railway Pub last night to see The Camelfoot Raiders. As ever the band were excellent and the pub was buzzing. People were dancing to the music 🎶 and I had a fantastic evening. All the bar staff were efficient and friendly and the Landlord made sure that everything ran smoothly.

Unfortunately there is always the pub drunk who insists on ruining things. One man in particular was so drunk that he made rather a fool of himself ........ you expect that sort of behaviour from teenagers but not a man in his sixties !?!?! The man in question was so drunk and unsteady on his feet that he managed to pour his entire pint over me ! Rather than apologise he ran away to hide behind his equally inebriated tiny blonde wife. The couple, when confronted, just giggled !?!?!?! I complained to the Landlord's wife who was unable to speak without slurring her words and she just shrugged 😡

Visit this pub if you like live music but be prepared to dodge the savage drunks and nasty landlady !!

Used to love but not anymore

Visited many times through various owners. Have enjoyed it as a gig venue. Unfortunately due to a facebook post that expressed hateful xenophobic views I will no longer be visiting. I will not give my money to people who are clearly islamophobic. Ipswich is a multicultural town and those views have no place there.
