Before 10am in the morning, out of season leave Sandbanks behind and travel to the long stretches of sand and unrelenting beauty of the Studland Bay. Eat or graze at the restaurants and cafes. All made possible by the excellent ferry, drive, walk or cycle.

The ferry itself is ok but if you are going there for bird watching as we did there are several hides but you have to pay separately to use each one. There is somebody with their hand out on every corner and in total we paid £40.00 just for the ferry and hides.

A short trip from Poole to Brownsea Island. Staff professional and friendly. Hand sanitizer stations on board.

We got the ferry over to Brownsea Island. You don’t now get the extra hop around the back of the island with the commentary which is disappointing. No one on board checking the social distancing as some people chose to ignore the taped off seats and sat in them. The wearing of masks when on the top deck out in the air is bizarre. I can understand it down below but not in an open space. Crew friendly as always. Boat feels safe.

Had a lovely day on Brownsea island this week. Weather was beautiful, spotted lots of red squirrels, had lunch with the peacocks and their sweet little chicks, then sat on the beach which felt like I was on a desert island. The only disappointment was why the ferry back didn’t go around the island like it usually does, was really looking forward to that little cruise. Also is it really necessary to wear face coverings on the ferry outside in the fresh ? Will definitely go back though as 4 hours wasn’t long enough to totally relax as there is a fair bit of walking to do.
