Have walked whole towpath from Taunton to Bridgwater, in stages, on numerous occasions. Some stretches are better done in good weather, because of surface, but on the whole very good. My favourite area is around Maunsel and North Newton, but the Creech and Boat & Anchor areas are also nice. Tea rooms and toilets at Maunsel lower lock is useful... More

Would be better in the sunshine but in any weather the views are staggering. This is the Somerset levels with an amazing variety of wild life. It all looks very peaceful but remember the floods a few years ago.

An excellent fairly level path for dog walking. Some cyclists pass by but usually well-mannered and safe.

late summer when people are using the walk and the mosquitos start to come out as well, that's is the only draw back, other wise this riverside is perfect to go when after evening dinner, again nothing is perfect, some of the dog-owners still selfishly let their dog spoil the path which is the most annoying thing.

wife and I regularly use the canal to walk our dog and pounding the canal with my running shoes. As we live in Taunton it's extremely convenient for us to be on the canal within a 10 minute drive. We often use the car parks at the following locations: Maunsell lock - has a fantastic little cafe perfect for the... More

I love the towpath, so living in Taunton I cycle along it regularly. You will see wonderful wildlife, beautiful scenery and you can stop off for refreshments at a few choice locations along the way (my favourites are Maunsel Lock Tea Room and the Boat & Anchor), or pack a picnic and have a totally free day out away from... This is a well maintained footpath, used by all walker's jogger's and Cyclists, there are a few benches to sit on along the way, where you can just sit and watch any wildlife that might pass your way in the peace and quiet of the Somerset countryside, NICE,,,

The Space Walk is fascinating and will provide more interest for families than the canal which is mostly quiet without boat movements. Be aware though that this a very busy cycle route and you will need to keep a constant watch for riders expecting to exercise their right of way over humble walkers.
