About
There are preserved traces of many prehistoric, Thracian, Thracian-Roman, Late Antique and Medieval settlements in the surroundings and the confines of Haskovo. In December 2000, a team of archaeologists led by Dr. Georgi Kitov (1943-2008) discovered a unique Thracian tomb from the IVth century B.C. in the mound Roshavata Chuka near the village of Alexandrovo.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited with much interest and curiosity the Alexandrovo Museum, a new and beautiful building. There are copies of the tomb frescoes, a replica of the tomb itself and many ancient objects. I was shocked by the artistic level reached by Thracians 2500 years ago; I do not understand how such a great people disappeared without trace, nor did the language survive. I recommend to those interested in history and culture in general to make the effort to go to this attractive museum.

The first time we went on Monday it was closed. So it will be a good idea to phone and ask for opening hours before you go, as they also change when the seasons change.
I am interested in Archeology so this is my cup of tea.

The museum, 12 miles from Haskovo, is very small but very informative. The guide spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable. The displays are bilingual, in Bulgarian/English, so the tour just pointed out the highlights and lasted maybe 20 minutes. Then I had time to read about any facet of Thracian history that interested me. The replica of the tomb is quite nice, tho the entrance and second door are 4' at most. The original tomb is right behind the museum but sealed to preserve the frescoes. An hour at the museum is plenty and if driving from Haskovo, allow 2 - 2 1/2 hours total. A very enjoyable outing.

This museum is small, but very modern ad professional. Initially, I thought you could visit the original tomb, but this replica does a good job of telling the story of the tomb. A real size replica of the tomb that you cant enter and even see the construction of from the outside of the tomb is the museum's real gem.
If you're in the neighborhood - or very interested in Thracian history - make sure to stop by this museum.

Excellent replica of the Thracian tomb discovered in recent years in the forest nearby. Just a mile or so from Aleksandrovo camping.

We learned a lot about a culture and civilisation that I didn't know anything about. Small but impressive museum, all information in English, Bulgarian and Japanese.

It easy to find it, close to Haskovo.
If you are very tall you will have problem when entering the tombs.

The tomb was impressive, and the model of it within the museum made it possible to experience the real thing. Very helpful staff on site.
