Lots of fun, highly recommended
Jul 2021 • Family
Went with three kids (1, 5, 7 to) and had a great time. First time we've been and I have to admit I was a little hesitant at first pulling up to a huge old factory. Once we got inside they found it a little scary with all the old machinery in there and they were not sure on the walk from the entry to the exhibits but once they got stuck in they loved it.

The water and earth sections are lots of fun for younger kids, plenty of hands on things to experiment with. The fire area was more suited to older children I think.

We had to pre-book, it wasn't that busy. The food in the cafe was pretty good too and came quickly (although quite expensive), but they do have a nice area for people with packed lunches.

Outside playground was very good too, we didn't get the chance to go in the water park bit, but defo will next time. We only planned to come for a few hours, but you could easily spend the day here and keep the kids entertained.

Pay once for tickets and use them for a year with unlimited entry also.

Highly recommended.

Unforgettable fun
May 2021 • Family
I loved everything and so did the grand children : 2, 7, 9. The diggers which the children could use, the explosions thr children could detonate, the furnace, the hurricane, the water area where you could shoot at mum and dad...it was fantastic. Then to top it all outside the most amazing waterpark and children's playground. We can't wait to come back

Great first time visit. Amazing building
Oct 2020 • Family
We enjoyed around a 4 hour visit today with a 7 and 10 year old. It was our first visit. Covid wise there were numerous volunteers wiping down the exhibits but you do have to get in the mindset that your kids are touching things that have just been touched by others. I sanitised both kids at the end of each room.

Lunch was great in my opinion. Huge space. Table service. All 3 of us had a hot meal and a drink for £13. Felt very organised and safe. Food was served quickly.

It was cold in there. Wrap up warm! Well worth a visit.

Triple whammy experience
Sep 2020 • Friends
We visited the 19th September 2020, had a great time. The staff were absolutely fantastic, supportive, friendly and attentive and deserve praise for what they do. The environment is brilliant and the whole experience does get the adrenaline going. You are not waiting around too much. Wear a jumper or fleese as it can be cold. 5 stars. Well done

ok for a rainy day I suppose
Aug 2020
My son has been wanting to go here for ages, overall I have to say it was a bit boring, and my life has not been enhanced by a visit here, it is very tired looking, and many of the interactions don't work, I know it has won many awards in the past but I think that was many years ago, I was asked if I wanted an annual pass and the answer was definitely a firm no. The best bit was the farrier he was good. I wont be visiting again.

Something different but cold!
Aug 2020
We visited with a 6 and 4 year old so was looking forward to the play area and water park the most. We did not realise it was a steelworks so was not expecting as much darkness and the temperature was freezing! It was a completely different day out and my children liked the water and earth areas the most. Unfortunately when we went to the park in the afternoon it started to rain and was too cold for the outdoor water park so missed out on this part. My children did enjoy the slime making workshop which we booked on arrival and there was ample seating available to eat our packed lunch. Although there was a sign on the door to the eating area saying no packed lunches which was a bit confusing. My only real negative is the temperature, If I visit again I will wear scarf, gloves and a hat!!

Good combo of modern living museum and science hands on
Aug 2020 • Family
Hadn't realised this was essentially a working museum so you get the combination of seeing the steel forgery manufacturing plant - kept mostly as it was 30years ago in the height of production with 4 separate 'rooms' representing fire, water, air and earth.
Because it's a 1/3 mile long site, plan to wear what you would if you were outside, whilst the majority of the museum that isn't the play area is undercover it's in the old recovered part of the manufacturing plant which is really quite open and chilly.
Place was set up well for social distancing with decent size and flow. Unfortunately a fair amount of exhibits were not working which made it a little disappointing and like others have said, the whole site is in need of a bit of love; it was heavily raining on the day we went and a lot of the roof was leaking in. However a good half day out and with an annual pass for the same as entry was decent value - play areas looked great (although we didn't try with the massive rainy day!)

This was so average. Quite disappointed as we were looking forward to it after a long wait. Lots of stuff not working as usual. The big melt is good to watch

Could be better in my opinion. Average day out
Aug 2020 • Family
Some of the activities were really good but I just felt like the place needed a bit more investing into it. Some of the activities didn't work any more and there were a lot of empty spaces. Could be made amazing if effort and money put into it.
Just dont go to the cafe in peak times. We stood in the queue for 20 minutes waiting to place our order and it still hadn't moved anywhere, then we were passed a bit of paper down the line telling us that half the things on the menu had run out!
