Colchester Zoo is constantly developing and has won many awards for its work. With over 270 species to see, set in 60 acres of beautiful parkland and lakes, Colchester Zoo is well worth a visit. As you walk around the zoo there's plenty of play areas to try out including the indoor soft play area Jungle Tumble with a section for under 3s and all new play equipment where the kids can release their wild side! New enclosures include a walk through enclosure with butterflies and another with Rainbow Lorikeets offering visitors a chance to feed them a treat of nectar. Plus there's 'Bears of the Rising Sun', a state of the art enclosure which houses two beautiful sun bears , Jo Jo and Srey Ya. You can also come face to face with Komodo Dragons, see white rhino, giraffes, ostrich and kudu roaming together at Kingdom of the Wild and walk underwater through the 24m tunnel at the Playa Patagonia sealion pool. Learn more about the animals and see them up close by watching one of the 50 daily displays. You even get the fantastic opportunity to feed the elephants and giraffes yourself and take a ride on the 'Lost Madagascar Express' road train! Don't forget to pop into the discovery centre and have a go at handling some unusual bugs or get your face painted and transform yourself into your favourite animal!

Great Zoo shame about the website.

I tried to book online but once I'd entered my bank details it froze. I phoned the next day to be told that I'd used an old website and that I should use Google Chrome to search... read more

there didn't seem to be many animals? Felt the animal carers seemed under enthusiastic and the animals we did see looked bored no stimulation for them especially the Orangutans they just looked sad. No Chimpanzees although there was an enclosure there for them so looks like they are expected. Thought it was expensive entrance fee. Just in general felt sorry... More

We went here today after hearing lots of recommendations from friends but unfortunately we were not impressed. The viewing areas are tiny the areas for the animals we felt are too small and it is very commercial. A Disney land for animals not a place to view them like they would be in the wild. We are regular visitors to... More

I tried to book online but once I'd entered my bank details it froze. I phoned the next day to be told that I'd used an old website and that I should use Google Chrome to search in future. Surely if there's an old website then they should remove it. I'd never use Google Chrome and prefer my old and... More

Had a fantastic day with my wife at the zoo! It's suitable for all ages and lots of families with young children were there on a weekday. It was relatively quiet so the whole experience did not feel rushed at all. We could stop and watch the animals do their thing. The info boards were also informative, easy to read... More

We went in the off season / school term time so it was refreshingly and amazingly quiet around the whole zoo. Even though there were very few people, as far as we could tell all of the animals were still accessible and there was lots of informative feeding sessions and multiple times to attend. If you want to see all... More

I visited the zoo on a Wednesday and I would definitely recommend visiting during the week. I had the opportunity to get real close the animals, the staff are more able to talk to you and the exhibits are not over crowded. The zoo truly is a beautiful place with all the exhibits being well looked after and fit for... More

Took our 6 year old grandson to the zoo, he loved it. Many animals to see and plenty of places to sit and take a break. Great if you wish to take a picnic but he food outlets are reasonably priced. Good play areas for children including a indoor area. Great day out!

This was a great day out! We booked our tickets online which is 10% cheaper than at the gate tickets. When you arrive, there is lots of space to park in. We went into the prepaid tickets building, where you can enter your code and receive your tickets and then you head into the main entrance, bypassing the queues. A... More

Colchester Zoo is a lovely child friendly area with many different things to do, when I took my kids, they loved all the animals and feeding the elephants, they especially enjoyed the giraffes! The shop is lovely too, my kids bought a colchester zoo clicking pen and the other bought a animal puppet. Quite expensive but great for a treat!
