We got the citadel and the castle mixed up but found the castle eventually. Some rather steep steps and lots of cobbles so unsuitable for anyone who has difficulty walking but a fantastic place for everyone else and our 9 year old thought it was...More

There is lots to see here with history of conflict including both the Civil War and Jacobite uprising. Good walk around the walls and exhibitions in the keep

The castle is steeped in history dating back to the 11th century. Many interesting rooms & exhibits including a military museum (which is extra but recommend getting a combined ticket). Would benefit from having headphones available to give a full commentary.

My partner and I visited the castle while on holiday in Carlisle and we really enjoyed ourselves. The castle is well preserved and very informative. It also has an extra little museum that we purchased tickets for. Overall, definitely worth a trip.
