We went on the off chance this was open. Great we got to leave the pram in the reception. Lots of places to see. Plenty of stairs. Lovely walk around the top. Great part of history.

We were on our way south and detoured to the castle. The use of the building in modern times takes away some of the atmosphere that castles tend to generate. If you are in Carlisle and have an English Heritage membership you may want to...More

A good place to visit and add to one's list of Castles. Make sure you have the British Heritage Pass, so you don't pay. It's more about the history of the place than its standard looks.
