BLUE BADGE PARKING ONLY IS AVAILABLE. OTHER PARKING PLEASE USE LOCAL PAY & DISPLAY. Head through the imposing gatehouse and step into 3,000 years of history. Explore the castle headland with one of our experienced guides for FREE or embark on your own journey through history with one of our audio tours and gain a fascinating insight into its past, from Iron Age settlements, to the Roman signal station and medieval chapel. The castle's heyday was in the 12th century when it was developed by Henry II and King John. This mighty castle has seen action in some of England's most defining battles. It was twice besieged by Parliamentarians in the Civil War, and has defended king and country from the Jacobites, Napoleon and the German Kaiser, when it came under bombardment during the First World War.

Atmospheric but testing walk up from the harbour. Well signposted and easy to follow, but not for the less mobile. Very steep and uneven. When you reach the top you walk along the castle wall until you reach the castle entrance. Great views of the sea either side of the headland. Also Anne Brontes grave in the church nearby opposite... An interesting castle with great views of Scarborough. Best visited in decent weather as the headland is exposed and there is only a cafe and small exhibition indoors.

I have been going to Scarborough since i was about 1967, this month was the first time ever that i have been to the castle. Learning about the history was quite good. The area it covers was unexpected as it was huge. There are toilets and a cafe, when we was there they were having a wine tasting and jam... More

After a lung bursting walk up from the sea front we received a very friendly welcome at the Castle. The exhibition above the tea room is very interesting with ancient and modern WW1 history. It was a clear bright day & the views over Scarborough & the coastline were amazing. Not much of the castle is left standing but the... More

Even in winter it's a wonderful place to visit. The views, the history and the feeling of pride that you get to be from Yorkshire whilst stood upon the grounds of Scarborough castle are overwhelming. I love this coast line and you can see why when there is so much beauty here. The castle is overlooking the North Sea looking... More

The castle has tremendous views over Scarborough and the North Sea. Even on a cold and windy day it was entertaining. A special thanks to Helen who was working in the cafeteria. She was very polite, helpful and very good at "suggestive selling" as she explained the benefits of the various bottles of wine, mead, etc. What with the, "try... More

On a recent day out, we had a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours visiting Scarborough Castle. Very reasonably priced, as is the guide book (which is also a very interesting read), with all money going to a very worthwhile cause. There are great views of the surrounding area and the site also has a good cafe. Unfortunately though, there is... More

I would recommend seeing this attraction, especially on a clear or sunny day, as it has great views over the north sea and over Scarborough itself. Very interesting attraction

Ideal to get out of your hotel and have a wander.. This was a real nice walk and interesting read whilst walking around. The only complaint I would have is the hard sell to join English heritage, We did not expect this and disagree with it. I hope they don't do this with the elderly! Besides this I would recommend...
