Nashville Bad Boys of Country were amazing at the SJT!
Went to watch a country show - Nashville Bad Boys of Country and it was amazing! So cool to see a show in that set up and the saloon bar staging was really effective. I can't wait to see the band again when they come to my area, and return to this theatre next time I'm in Scarborough. What a fab night! So pleased we were in the area at the right time.

    Outstanding
Went last night to see The 39 Steps , what can I say , appsalutly fantastic. First time at the SJT and we weren't disappointed, the staff couldn't have been nicer, genuinely friendly and helpful. As for the show, we laughed and smiled our way through the entire performance, the cast where amazing: there's nowhere to hide in such an intimate venue and they didn't need to. Hand on heart the best night out we've had in years, 2 hours of pure escapism.

    First time visitors
First time visitors to see 39 Steps and were not disappointed. It was hilarious, hugh energy and the best thing we've seen in a long time. The staff were the most helpful and friendly people who helped make our night!

    A visit worth waiting for
Our first visit to the SJT. Worth the wait, we went to see The 39 Steps. From the moment we walked into the theatre we were made to feel welcome. The staff were helpful and personable. The cast were excellent, as was the music. It was absolutely hysterical. The cast must be exhausted by the end of the show with the energy and enthusiasm they use and portray The innovative use of props and changing of scenery so well thought out and smooth. The fact it is performed in the round ensures the audience felt part of the performance and valued A thoroughly enjoyable and memorable evenings entertainment

    Great Play
Went to see "The 39 Steps" whilst on holiday in Scarborough, and what a great play it was. 2 hours of non stop excitement, it was quite funny in parts, with some minor ad-libs. I have never enjoyed a play so much in years. Well worth seeing. Well done to the SJ Theatre for a good night out.

    Blonde Bombshells!!
Tonight was the opening night - an evening of song and dance telling the story of a day in World War II. A fun night with a great script, good voices, ending with a standing ovation! We weren’t the only ones shouting for more, the whole place erupted!

    An explosive musical delight.
Went to see Blonde Bombshells yesterday evening and, yet again, it was an absolutely brilliant experience. A delightful musical comedy from start to finish. The quality of acting was great, but all were fabulous musicians so it was a real joy to watch this show.

    Bombshells In The Round
A lovely art deco building and the theatre in the round. Saw Alan Aykbourn plays here in about 2005 and chatted to him. We returned in August 2023, to see the Alan Plater play Blonde Bombshells of 1943 (we saw the play in Canterbury in 2006), a derivation of the BBC/HBO TV film Last of the Blonde Bombshells). The actor-musicians were all excellent; although I'm a saxophonist myself, Sarah Groarke on trumpet was brilliant! The line where the bandleader says about the sax, it's just like playing the clarinet always makes me flinch, as it's a totally different embouchure and tone generation! True value for money, as my wife and I were £18 each and my teenage son was a tenner, as the theatre charges just £10 to the under 30s (!), as they don't get under 30s often, so it's to encourage younger theatregoers.

    Always Enjoyable
Really enjoy visiting the SJT in Scarborough and have been a few times now. The productions are excellent and the actors superb on every occasion. Recently enjoyed The 39 Steps and The Blond Bombshells. We now have our favourite seats in the Round Theatre, seats are comfortable too. Staff always friendly and helpful. An asset for Scarborough.
Thanks so much for this lovely review!

We went for breakfast after a recommendation. The setting is lovely and the service was good. The menu is good with a Scottish breakfast in the list and some more funky breakfast variations. The menu is not cheap which set expectations high.

The food arrived after a reasonably long wait and those of us who had full breakfast ended up with bits of it lukewarm, some slightly undercooked and some overcooked. It felt like the kitchen had been caught by surprise and the experience was disappointing. I couldn’t go back based on this and not able to recommend it.

We went to see 39 Steps last month - it was so good we didnt think anything could equal it as we laughed through most of that performance.
So yes it WAS different - but this time as well as laughing we had a good Singalong as well!
