Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was impressed by the many ways in which Roger De Haan is rejuvenating Folkestone. One of them is re-branding the old town as the 'Creative Quarter. Apparently De Haan grants short leases at pepper corn rents to give entrepreneurs the chance to prove their business idea. As a result these charming cobbled streets are populated by a multitude of independent shops which makes a welcome change from the multiple high street chains. Not yet St. Ives, but on the way...

As a child I loved this area of Folkestone but then for many years it went downhill rapidly. Finally the council have woken up to this fact and more recently have invested in both the area and the retail offering to bring it back to its best. Still work in progress but Hopefully Folkestone is on the up again.

Some parts of Folkestone (like many seaside towns) are a bit run down, but Folkestone has obviously had a go at regenerating the town, and it really works. We loved the quirky shops in the creative quarter. Plenty to enjoy and look at, cafe's to eat out, all leading down to the lovely seaside and amazing harbour arm. My daughter described Folkestone as like the love child of Southend-on-Sea and Brighton, and I knew what she meant!!!!!!

We walked up here in September and it was very dead and partly closed up. There were some interesting shops and cafes but none of the atmosphere this area of the town used to have. It was worth the walk but probably my last visit back to my home town.

The problem is that there is many closed shops and existing ones are being closed too.Visited basement shop/studio run by a young girl.she is very creative and I loved her art but I've been told she is closing down due to over using the studio (I understand she is spending a lot of time there as she cant create during retail hours) .Such a shame as that little place is a real hidden gem!

Not far from my hotel so thought I would go for a wonder. Lots of independent shops and art galleries. Nice to window shop or even go in and buy. The street is uphill but taken slowly it's not too bad

A quaint old street full of trendy shops. There's information on the shop windows showing the original use of the establishments; so different from today! As picturesque as the street itself is, it is worth looking up because there are quite a few interesting wall decorations. It is a short walk from Folkestone's Harbour Arm and well worth seeking out.

A really unique and interesting place. Love the whole feel of it and especially Love the Bansky at the bottom of the old cobbled high street. Some lovely restraints and coffee shops. Love the Steep Street cafe! Great coffee and service. Can’t to be able to sit inside again to browse the numerous books lining the walls.

Folkestone has been through some tough times in recent years along with a lot of our other seaside towns in the UK. In common with some, Folkestone is creating an area where arty, cultural and alternative shops and galleries can be found. I visited the Creative Quarter last weekend and took a friend down who had never been to Folkestone before. She loved the Quarter and we did some shopping in a couple of the stores (including an excellent Vintage Clothes shop!). Keep going Folkestone.....this is excellent.

Having recently moved to Folkestone, and being a few minutes walk from the Creative Quarter, my hubby and I feel as if we have finally landed. Despite the ongoing regeneration needs (empty and dilapidated buildings in need of serious TLC and occupation) and odd pockets of 'areas you would avoid' We enjoy seeing whats on, as well as the diverse events organised by various societies and creative individuals.

There is still a lot more to be done to amp this quarter. However, we are hopeful that with the right investments and continued positive energy excerted by the locals, who knows where it may lead....
