- lynn mUnited Kingdom5 contributionsMagical Victorian Christmas eventWe had a wonderful festive time at the Victorian Christmas event. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Our son was dressed as Santa and he got to meet the Victorian Santa in his beautiful green outfit. There was lots to do like making Christmas crafts , the robin trail etc. I absolutely loved the Christmas carols that we sang. It took me back to the days where you could go round doors and sing carols. And to top it off we won lots of things at the tombola and enjoyed a nice hot chocolate! We are already planning our trip back in Easter and bringing my mother in law with us. Thank you for being so kind and friendly. Everyone in Dunoon seems to be friendly. Highly recommend going here !Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a kind review! It is very much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your time at the Victorian Christmas event, it was lovely to welcome your family on the day. It's great displays of historical information: real/reproduction artifacts; victorian rooms and small viewing cinema. The staff were all friendly and welcoming too. Great for children and a little shop (very cute). Only cost £3.50 per adult and children were free.Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review! What lovely photos too. Staff really friendly and helpful, a special thank you to Jeanette who was a font of knowledge. Try and spot the twelve out of place items in the Victorian exhibits for a bit of fun!Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review, we will pass on your kind feedback. We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit (and the Victorian Rooms Quiz). - Ian WDumfries, United Kingdom10 contributionsGreat wee museum; excellent helpful crew. The artifacts in Castle House Museum and the history associated were surpassed only by the excellent, knowledgeable, crew. Very helpful folk all round. My favourite bit was the 'boat hire' and building display with a genuine rowing boat (we called them OaryBoats way back then) that had been donated by family of one of the past hirers. I did a spell working for one of the hirers during my summer school holidays back in the 1950s which made that more special.Hello Ian, Thank you very much for your visit, and we greatly appreciate your kind words. It was great to welcome you and your family and hear your memories of Dunoon. We really enjoyed chatting about the OaryBoats! We hope to see you again in the future.Written 12 June 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 June 2024

A beautiful historic building set in lovely garden. The museum tells the story of Dunoon's changes from neolithic times to modern day in an interesting display of exhibits. There is also a nice gift shop. Towards the end of the visit is a fun quiz.

What a wonderful gem, this museum is an amazing find in terms of variety, information, presentation and attention to detail. Having a lovely warm welcome, I could have whiled away hours on the various exhibits, display rooms and cabinets, reading about the history of the place, the people, the industries, poring over the photos. A lot of time effort and care have gone into making this museum a must-visit place for all ages. I particularly loved the medicine cabinet display around the whole of reception, and the Victorian rooms, as well as the clan history information, and will definitely be back. Very reasonably priced and in a wonderful central location, the castle and gardens which can be seen from the ferry ride over really made my stay in Dunoon. A big thankyou to all who contribute their time and thought to creating and maintaining this masterpiece, it alone makes a visit to Dunoon well worthwhile.

I received a warm welcome and when the gentleman working there found out I was in Dunoon to write about the pier for my blog, he gave me lots of useful and interesting information. He clearly knows his local history inside out and was very enthusiastic about it. He was very helpful and informative. It's a nice museum with displays about the Inverclyde ferries and Victorian room displays.

Thank you very much for such a kind review. It is appreciated. I have drawn it to the attention of the two young ladies who also work here just to annoy them! It was a pleasure to help you and I trust that your project goes well.

What an interesting small museum with lots of displays, artifacts from Victorian times thru to today, together with static and interactive models. There is an area set aside, with seating, for a short film on the life in Dunoon - great.
It is on the first floor but there is a lift for those who can't manage the stairs. Inside there are two more steps onto a second level.
John the curator was a lovely man who is a fountain of knowledge. He helped us to find the street where he'd found our ancestors had lived in the 1860's. Amazing
Set in lovely grounds overlooking the victorian pier with great viewsof the firth of Clyde.
