Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was our 3rd time watching a National Theatre live production in Studio Cinema Dunoon. To have these showings and other big movie releases on your doorstep is fantastic. Ok, it’s not leather, reclined seating but it’s not a ferry ride away either.

The staff are always lovely. Toilets clean and having gone last night prepared for Studio B to be cold as usual, the heating was on and it was toasty. My only suggestion to improve would be being able to buy some vino for watching with the movies/productions.

Keep up the good work guys. You are a real asset to the town.

Honestly, one of the most charming, character filled cinemas we’ve ever been to without and ounce of pretence.

Lovely, engaging staff on the desk that were more than welcoming. Clean and comfortable facilities throughout. Crystal clear digital projection with faultless sound.

Negative reviews of this cinema are petty and ill-founded. It’s the epitome of wonderful.

Excellent cinema, went to see Insidious and it was a 10/10 movie I would definitely recommend watching it, nothing much to complain about, the seats were comfy and it wasn’t too busy, the staff that were on was amazing and friendly, I didn’t catch their names but there was a very tall man and a short girl 🤣👍 snacks were nice aswell but a bit expensive

Went to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Also recently went to see The Mario Movie.

Pros:

• Friendly staff
• Low crowds
• Decent snack options for a small cinema.
• Toilets usually clean.

Cons:

• Cinema is always FREEZING cold. Seriously guys, sort out your heating/ lack of. It makes watching a movie an endurance test. Often colder in the cinema than it is outside. Bone chilling, uncomfortable cold that certainly isn’t AC.
• For some time your right speaker hasn’t worked. I suspected this when watching the Mario Movie, but a quick check this evening confirmed it. The left and centre speaker are working, but the right one is completely off. It badly affects the viewing experience, and there’s no excuse for it.
• Projector is barely scratching 1080p. It’s also not lined up straight with the screen. Again, this shouldn’t happen.
• Sound system is curiously lacking bass? It’s like you don’t have subwoofers or something. Presence is definitely lacking. Especially in music scenes. My home cinema setup has more dynamic sound. Which shouldn’t happen.
• What happened to the house lights? Finding your seat during the adverts is an actual nightmare in the dark. It’s basic practice to have the house lights half on for people to find their seat before the movie. Really annoying that I have to switch on my phone torch just to sit down whilst carrying food and drinks, ten minutes before the film even starts!
• Popcorn os seriously hit or miss. Today they didn’t have salted popcorn on, only sweet. Come on guys, you’re a tiny cinema. Did you sell out??
• 500 ml of fizz costs just shy of £4. Popcorn similarly priced. Ridiculously expensive for a mediocre cinema experience. Are the owners trying to put patrons off or something? Because it’s working. That showing of Guardians had 4 people!

If you want more people to attend, you need to cough up the dough and invest, particularly in heating and the basic audio visual experience, ie, the bread and butter of a cinema. Keep cheaping out like this and you’ll be shuttered.

I want to attend my local cinema more, but it’s far cheaper - and cinematically superior right now - to simply watch the blu ray in my own home. Your job is to change my mind. And judging from your attendance, I know I’m not alone.

Given the population of this part of the cowal peninsula the cinema is never going to compete with the big city cinemas and it shows sometimes. However, it satisfies local demand, is affordable and has recent releases. Dunoon is not overly blessed with entertainment venues but it does it's best. Pick your seats carefully, some, not many are a bit too worn for comfort and I understand why you might want to bring your own snacks but we usually go weekly and find the staff pleasant and helpful and the sound and picture quality is acceptable. It's nice to have a cinema in the town.

Lovely cinema. This is the second time we have visited on holiday. It is cheap and has lots of room. The staff are friendly. We bought snacks from Morrisons opposite.
