Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Definitely a stand out bookshop in Hay. They have a LOT! And it’s so well organised. Beautiful shop too. I like that it has some current releases in the entrance area, it makes it suitable for basically anyone. Love the basement area, some great finds down there! Love the mix of secondhand and new. The classics upstairs are lovely too.

To me this is the best of the bookshops in Hay, with a good selection of new and second hand books and an adjacent burger bar. Categories are clear and well laid out and are decent value

The town of books, Hay on Wye. There is no where in the world that has the charm of this place. Booths is my very favourite.
You just have to go to understand! : )

I only live 15 miles away and never knew Hay had a cinema. Beautiful building, gorgeous interiors, most comfortable chairs at a cinema I have ever sat and loved the little feet poiffee. Love thatvit has a bar, sweets in a massive jar you buy by the scoop. Fabelmans was a boring film, but the cinema experience was 10/10. Will be returning

Great choice of books BUT check the price online first. The majority of books were significantly overpriced! As much as we prefer to supposed local bookshops, such a high mark up is not fair to customers and we are likely to windowshop but not buy here!
And the cafe is closed still

I’m not the kind of person to leave a negative review but I couldn’t believe the customer service at the cinema, which has such good reviews!

Turned up to the bookshop 3 minutes after the start time and it was empty and dark. Pressed the buzzer and rang the shop number, and the owner answered who was rude, passive aggressive and unapologetic, blaming us for being late, despite nothing on the tickets or website indicating we would be locked out if not there early.

About 10 minutes later the projector operator (who was absolutely lovely) came running round the corner to find us. Turns out the cinema is in a completely different place! Nothing on the tickets to indicate this, or in the shop window.

Once we were in, it was quite sweet… the seats were more comfy than your average cinema but I got neck ache from being too close nearer the front and the screen was pretty small nearer the back.

What a shame!

Fabulous building housing a vast collection of secondhand books, plus new titles too.
Spent a long time browsing over the three floors. It has its own cafe and cinema. Well ordered and presented.
Highly recommended.

Beautiful book shop, v grand frontage and equally impressive inside, v knowledgeable staff, huge selection of new and second hand books, great just to wander around and make sure you look at the floor in the children’s section.
We will revisit

Made me fall in love with books all over again!

Perfect place to browse and explore and find the perfect book.

I couldn’t leave without buying one!

Disappointed the cafe wasn’t open - have enjoyed cake her before but understandable.

There are book shops a plenty here obviously, they are all worth a look. I went here twice. Disappointed that the cafe was only offering cake and not it’s usual menu, but that’s understandable at the moment. A good place to mooch around!
