- Familyof5KGreater Manchester, United Kingdom31 contributionsGreat Christmas night at the theatreWent to see sleeping beauty panto - stunning theatre, polite and enthusiastic staff. Well priced tickets, slapstick performance with lots of audience participation- the kids (& some adults) loved it. Lovely traditional night out. It’s a panto and all expectations were met, we usually go to Manchester but decided to give Buxton a try and so glad we did, def would book again.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 24 December 2022
- Teresa N1 contributionFestive FunWhat a great experience in the true pantomime tradition: lots of fun, audience participation and lively singing and dancing. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Sleeping Beauty on Christmas Eve. I can see the panto at Buxton Opera House will become part of our Christmas ritual in future. Well doneVisited December 2022Written 28 December 2022
- Llisa531Cheshire, United Kingdom23 contributionsBeautiful buildingWent to the opera house last night for a George Micheal tribute act. The act was great and we Had a great evening. The venue is absolutely beautiful a real little gem. Staff are friendly and efficient and the bar was pleasant enough. There’s lots of little bars and pubs in the vicinity although it may be best to book ahead as they all get booked up on show nights. Lots of wonderful shows and acts on here throughout the year.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2023
- Joseph SpendloveDerby, United Kingdom366 contributionsA real theatreShocked to see some people’s views on here. A reminder this place is run by many volunteers and it’s amazing it’s still going, such an essential service and beautiful experience for the area. Give them a break if it’s not your cup of tea, shut up and get on the train and go into Manchester and pay 3 times as much for the same show. We went to see fast love the george michael tribute. Great atmosphere. Lovely kind staff at the booking office getting us great stalls seats one hour before the show started. The entrance staff kindly showed us where to find our seat. The half time lce cream lady was also cheerful and added to the evening. The show was fantastic and such an iconic venue. Please keep supporting this venue and let’s sing out loud the haters xVisited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 February 2023
- Will D8 contributionsThe most wonderful night in decadesThe most stunning performance by the most talent Ukrainian National Opera. The building is as beautiful as I remember. And the staff were so wonderfully to the man in the kilt with mobility issues so Bravos 👏 all round. Thanks you fur a truly unforgettable evening.Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 21 March 2023
- Bill MOldham, United Kingdom253 contributionsBeautiful theatre. Decent leg roomA lovely Victorian theatre. We were in the stalls, row J, for a comedian and the view and acoustics were very good. For a theatre of its age we were pleasantly surprised with the leg room, which was quite generous, by Victorian theatre standards.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 March 2023
- Anne D6 contributionsWhy not show returns when events sold out...Have 1 ticket for the sold out jazz plus one weekend for jazz festival as my husband is having a major op. Returned my tickets but jazz plus one still not sold. Not surprising as website says sold out. Apparently too difficult for them to update their website to say .. yes.. there is a ticket. Instead have lost £206! Saddened.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 July 2023
- NelsonBournemouth, United Kingdom7 contributionsAmazing decor!Beautiful place, a lovely surprise! Not much leg room but it’s a very old theatre. Well worth going to see a performance just for the atmosphere. Like most theatres there are not enough ladies loos! The staff were all absolutely lovely and very friendly, even took a photo of my hubby and I for our kids to see when we got back to friends who gave us the evening off! If you get chance to go to Buxton it’s well worth trying to catch a show here if you can!Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 July 2023
- Claire G22 contributionsWONDERFUL SUNDAY AFTERNOONFantastic show. We went to see Mikado and what a performance. Fantastic! All the performers were brilliant but hats off to YumYum and The Daughter in law elect, what powerful voices. The entire crew just great, and we did laugh at the long list of "who wouldn't be missed". Haha All the staff in the opera house lovely. Oh and not forgetting the lovely local lady Penny, who sat next to us and enjoyed an ice cream with us. Will definitely be back and wholly recommendVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 July 2023
- Cickany592 contributionsBuxton Summer Festival: A Pleasant SurpriseAs seasoned festival enthusiasts, we decided to explore one of this year's final performances of the Buxton Summer Festival, despite its lesser-known reputation. The host town is quite charming, with the opera house conveniently located. The venue, a former cinema that carries a unique Art Nouveau flair, and the performance didn't disappoint. The cast delivered outstanding performances, and even the modern production elements – like setting La Somnambule in a workplace canteen scene – were easier to accept given the abundance of far more absurd stage interpretations found globally.Visited July 2023Written 8 August 2023

The wonderful Buxton Opera House is an exquisitely beautiful Edwardian theatre, opened in 1903 and lovingly restored to its former glory in 2001.
Well maintained with a wide variety of performances, the large pavement area outside is also an excellent meeting place. Very impressed with this hidden gem of an Opera House tucked away in Buxton.

Visited LOctober 2023 to see Toyah and Robert's Sunday lunch and then Lloyd Cole on the Friday. We love this venue. It's a beautiful building and so pleased it's been preserved for future generations. We had great views on both occasions and thought the people working there (may have been volunteers) were absolutely lovely. We will be back and recommend.

Buxton opera house is stunningly beautiful with incredible interiors but the seats are incredibly uncomfortable with no leg room and especially concerning if you have a bad back.
Sadly I won’t be going again and am looking at other theatre with more comfortable seating .

The building is stunning and the show we attended was spectacular .
Now for the negatives as to why they got 3 instead of 5 stars.
I and about 6 people around me was videoing the show . No flash or anything but a member of the staff came to me and said it's not allowed . She could see many other people doing the same but didn't approach them .
The second and more serious is there are no parking for disabled people near the door. The nearest was approximately 150 meters away which is totally unacceptable for people like me who can't walk very far .

A fabulous Edwardian venue. Staffed by volunteers, who deserve huge thanks. I've visited a few times now and enjoyed every single one - especially the Gilbert & Sullivan productions.

This was my first visit to Buxton Opera House, and I will definitely be returning. The staff were incredibly helpful, with good communication, and took very good care of my assistance dog during the performance. They have worked hard to overcome the buildings accessibility, with full details given on Euan's Guide.
I'm looking forward to visiting again.

Beautiful, traditional proscenium arch theatre. We were lucky to be there for a sold out performance.
Our seats were in row M of the stalls which gave a great view, even the seat at the end of the row which was listed as ‘restricted view’ was still good. As it was a full house, and these seats are under the circle balcony, it got quite hot. It also gets packed in the foyer area at the interval and end of the performance.
The stalls bar is very small. Not a complaint, just worth noting. We were served by lovely volunteer staff who did a great job, and we really enjoyed our visit.

Has anyone sat in seats BB6 and BB7? It says the view of the stage is limited, just wondered if I would be wasting my money on these seats.

There's a P&D CP 300 metres West of the opera house on the A53, I think it's free in the evening - but in the evening you may be able to park closer on the A53 anyway

Don't go to Bella I found it over priced and you didn't get a lot for your food there are other options close by depends what you like but I found a nice bar that does good food up the hill from the theatre I can recall the name but it's a number think it might be called number 9 that was quite good and The Tap is also good but busy

Hi , we are visiting The Buxton Opera House tonight and want to know a little more about the disabled access.
Can you tell me where the actual disabled entrance is and is it easy to get in with a wheelchair?
Are the wheelchair spaces inside easy to access and whereabouts are they within the theatre?
Many Thanks
