I know so many people pass this without thinking about what it represents. I look at the names and remember hearing about the families who lost loved ones and I am grateful to think My family survived without losing anyone in either the First or...More

There are various war memorials in Worthing: WW1 - The Battle of the Boar’s Head (30 June 1916 at Richebourg-l'Avoué in France) and the WW2 Pigeon memorial in Beech House Park; the WW2 Canadian Memorial on the beach (opposite George V Avenue); and the town’s...More

Shame on Worthing council they don't look after the memorial as it should be? This council pays more attention to giving it self high pay rise than look after its town.

I have to point out that this is NOT the Worthing War Memorial. This is a memorial to local men killed in the Boer Wars. The official Worthing War Memorial is in front of the Town Hall, in Chapel Road - that's where the poppies...More

I understand this is Memorial is a listed building for those killed in South African wars and not the World Wars. The Memorial to those killed in the World Wars is located in Chapel Road just by the Town Hall

War memorials are rarely observed at close quarters and often seem just part of the urban landscape. The one at the bottom of Steyne Gardens is right by the pavement and easily read. It makes sad reading, particularly knowing that the local men mentioned were...More

Working with the local elderly we often pass this spot and stop to look and see the war dead honoured. It means a lot to the local people and it is well maintained.

Erected by the local people in mamory of those who lost their lives in the South African (Boer) War 1899-1902. It would be more typical to see men serving in the local county regiments of foot and cavalry but it is clear that the local...More

This is the memorial erected in 1903 to commemorate the men of Worthing who died in the South African War (1899-1902) known now as the Boer War. It is situated at the end (south) of Steyne Gardens. Definitely, worth checking out if you are interested...More
