Well worth a visit

Very interesting old house with gardens that are well worth visiting if that's your sort of thing, much more interesting than other properties I have visited

If you have a couple of hours spare is worth a trip, pretty grounds, interesting history, lovely helpful staff. HOWEVER cafe is very poorly stocked.... upon our visit there was a huge queue, with only soup and one sausage roll left (surplus hot drinks) which was all very expensive. Regret not packing a picnic as we were left hungry and... More

A friend took me here for a day out. Our guide was very knowledgeable and taught me the root of many phrases I had never known. The house is interesting and the chance to go into a priest hole was very interesting. The grounds are beautiful and the tree house is great if you have children.

Went to the Xmas event where seasonal food was being made in olden day style and the staff were dressed in traditional way. Some good traditional music to add to the atmosphere

Beautiful National Trust place. Lovely grounds and a woods walk. House is lovely- guided tours are every half an hour. We had the brilliant Alan doing ours - witty and very informative.

Take the tour. our guide was excellent and the history lesson was very educational. "The house that saved a King" truely a good day out. The cafe also served very good food. Not to be missed if you are in the area.

Very informative guide. The wood has a 3 storey tree house up which we all climbed. Also my granddaughter enjoyed making mud pies with the pots and pans provided. The children were given a bag with a sticker book and magnifying glass among the contents. What a good idea. Unfortunately they aren't to take away. Much more entertaining than the... More

The outside areas are delightful. Very child friendly outside areas. Staff were very welcoming and personable. It was chilly outside but the open fire in the hall dining room made our visit cosy. Loved the history of this beautiful old house. Wonky floors upstairs added to its character. On our list for a return visit.

I was aware that this is one of the smaller National Trust properties so wasn't expecting anything amazing... how wrong I was. I visited with a friend and we decided to join an hour long guided tour, as recommended at the Visitor Reception/shop, and it was excellent. I think the words used were that it's a small house with a... More
