Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We've been enjoying this service as a family since it was first run several years ago.
When tides allow; park in Kingsbridge and venture down the estuary to Salcombe for a few hours in the town and on the beaches, before heading back along the idyllic route.

Me and my girlfriend took the ferry from Kingsbridge for the evening estuary tour and can honestly say it was a beautiful tour, very peaceful and calm, and the two people running the boat were very helpful with any questions we had about the area, and for spotting wildlife!

I would like to say an enormous thank you to the crew running the 15:40 ferry from Salcombe to Kingsbridge on Saturday 29 July. Unfortunately I realised 5 minutes in to the ferry crossing that I had left my car keys on the quay so the crew very kindly allowed me and my daughters to travel back to Salcombe on the 16:20 ferry from Kingsbridge so I could get my keys. I was so thankful for their kindness. We also used the ferry service on another day during our week away - I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's a very pleasant way to spend 30 minutes and the crew are so friendly. You can avoid parking in Salcombe (if you're not staying there) using this service. A really really lovely boat ride. Thank you again for your kindness.

Scenic Salcombe is certainly a beautiful place. Located on the side of a Ria in The South Hams of Devon, it offers stunning views and beautiful walks... but that's it, really.
There is a very limited choice of restaurants. We could only find two that weren't part of a pub. One of these, Dick & Wills, was only open at the weekend, the other being the Crabshed. It was very expensive with service charge added to the bill - I object being asked to pay the staff wages, which should be included in the markup on the meal.
The pubs were OK but very expensive, especially The Ferry Inn. None had a local feel to them, which was sad. You have to travel out of Salcombe to find a good old Devon pub. The Pigs Nose at East Prawle is great, but you need to get a taxi and this can prove expensive if you can get one.
There are three hotels in Salcombe itself, two are owned by the same group, Harbour Hotels and there is The South Sands Hotel on the beach which is in my opinion the best of the three as far as service goes but lacks facilities. The Salcombe Harbour Hotel in town is spoiled by over development and an awful car park. The Harbour Beach Club as South Sands looks like an unfinished project, we didn't go in, the entrance was too far from the car park, and it was raining.
There were no takeaways or fish and chip shops open when we visited.
Nearby Kingsbridge is the place to go for food. A good selection of restaurants with Restaurant 27 top of the list, it is excellent.
Summing up Salcombe appears to have had its day and is in decline which is sad. It seems to have lost its soul but if you are visiting for the scenery you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful scenery and weather for an evening cruise but it was very expensive and included nothing for the money. Would have been nice to have a little bit of information about the area shared with those on board.
We had tried to book in advance and were told it wasn’t possible. We arrived there early to queue up. As the boat arrived the skipper announced they had a booking and they were to get on first! Very disappointing.
Skipper was very friendly.

Dave the skipper’s commentary was very informative pointing out the sites of local historical interest and Andy, the crew, was friendly and a great help with boarding the The Lady Mary. It was a wonderful way to see Kingsbridge and Salcombe from the water.
