Only open a few days a year, what a gem. Painstakingly restored, the castle remnants, the house, the garden, are a testimony to the efforts, intelligence, persistence and imagination of the owners. Anyone who loves old buildings and has an understanding of the work involved in restoring a complex G1 listed building (all that paperwork !) will find this a... More

A lovely little gem of a castle. When I arrived at the castle I was immediately greeted by one of the team who told me to take a long walk around the moat. This helps you appreciate the full scale of the castle which can't be seen from the road. On returning I was told about the history of the... More

We was very lucky to be staying locally on one of their open days. Very informative leaflet was handed out on arrive. Very interesting place. If you are lucky to be there on one of their open days should not be missed.

A hidden gem with charming owners. A beautifully kept garden set in an enchanting backdrop, The stuff dreams are made of. It's not a full day out but spent a few hours here taking in the countryside sitting in the sun. Lots of places to sit and do your dreaming. My partner isn't too good in his feet so good... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this wonderful Castle which has been turned into a private home but with much of it still being restored in partnership with English Heritage. As soon as we arrived, we were given the most wonderful welcome by the friendliest & loveliest dog in the world, followed by a short but useful historical account of... More

We have driven past at least a hundred times in the last thirty rears and never noticed the castle despite it being less than fifty yards from the A40. The size, location and gardens are a surprise. The castle is only open occasionally either for English Heritage or the Open Gardens scheme and is well worth a look.

I am a dedicated Anglophile from America, and last summer my family and some friends -a baker's dozen of us- took a trip to southwest England. I was delighted to plan a day outing for everyone, and I must say I could not have happened upon a more marvelous place to tour than Wilton Castle (still not entirely sure how... More

Wonderful example of what can be done by a husband and wife on a mission. The gardens, the walls of this 12th Century castle, and the Elizabethan manor house built within the castle walls all have been restored with knowing care. The workmanship is remarkable. Well worth a stop in Ross on Wye.

The garden and setting here are beautiful. However the castle walls form part of the owners house and you are very aware that they are sitting in their garden whilst you try and look around. We were given a quick history and a leaflet by the owner and then left to explore. Stunning views but that's about it. We were... More
