A bucket list of daft things included fish and chips sat on the beach. We got our takeaway but the wind was to strong and cold to venture onto the sands. We walked through a gap as we saw seating and it was sheltered. There he was the man himself.Stood smiling in the middle of a nice quiet space.Surrounded by plenty of seats for people to simply sit and smile like his statue is.Or like us share a supper and a giggle with the great man and the hilarious and daft things we remember from his shows

Nice gardens and setting. Not a great likeness in the statue. Quiet area of the promenade near the pier.

After reading reviews I wasn't too sure what to expect. While walking along to see the memorial I caught a glimpse of the statue and I was looking at Les Dawson from a small distance but on closer inspection I was rather disappointed to say the least. Don't get me wrong the grounds are lovely and peaceful but the statue is far from being an exact likeness of Les Dawson. I wouldn't rubbish it as it's a nice reminder of a great comic genius.

This was a disappointment - couldn't see Les Dawson in this statue. Nice to see fresh flowers left at his feet though. He was great :)

Les is placed in a small garden, there used to be a piano filled with flowers but apparently it was stolen

What an utter insult !
Not one bit like Les!
Who on earth gave the go ahead for this abomination!?
Just as well it’s hidden away from general view! A deliberate act perhaps?
I believe there is to be another “comedian” commemorated locally!
Bobby Ball ... Can’t wait to see the shambles of that !
Hopefully the fundraisers will mot be using the same “sculptor”!!!!

He was a great guy and comic
but this statue is a disgrace, the artist who made it should be shamed.

I'm sorry, but it didn't look like Les Dawson, in fact we thought it was Hughie Green!
It's in a lovely spot and it's a good sculpture...but not of Les. It is to sculpture what Les was to piano playing! Perhaps that's it attraction and I missed it until writing this review. Perhaps that's how it should be viewed!
I am worried that it may be taken down, but please don't, Les Dawson needs to be remembered and celebrated- it takes a genius to play the piano so badly well....maybe the same is to be said of his sculpture.

Les Dawson was a comic Icon, and a man that was thoroughly loved and appreciated for his work. This statue however does not really do him justice in my opinion and was a bit disappointing. The quality is not very good, particularly the facial features. The location however is excellent as it is sat in a garden in a prime position next to the pier and therefore is still work a look.

This life-size statue must be a reasonable resemblance of the great man. We were walking along the promenade and could tell who it was from quite some way away which is impressive.
As the cliche goes, he is smaller than I imagined from the television but it is lifelike and a nice testament to one of the funniest men ever
