Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Have to admit that we found Lowestoft as a whole something of a disappointment, especially the area around the high street and shops.
Although the bathing huts and lengthy sandy beach are attractive, much of the rest seems fairly run down. Perhaps the secret is not to turn up on a Tuesday in mid May.
The sewerage infrastructure didn’t help as much of the harbour and pier area were fenced off. I’m afraid we won’t be returning to give it another try when that work is finished.
One intriguing factor (although probably a right nuisance for the locals) was the hundreds of kittiwakes nesting on window sills around the high street and other areas. Where we’re from kittiwakes nest on the cliffs but as there isn’t an abundance of those in Suffolk/Norfolk I suppose they have to live somewhere. Quite a sight and cacophony of calls!

We had a pleasant wander here. It was a Saturday and things didn't seem to get opening until a little later than we arrived. We struggled with the car park as we needed £4 for the 4+ hours in the town and the machine only took coins and not notes. There was a phone option but the location number of the sign wasn't recognised. We had the annoyance of driving off to find an open shop some way off for change and then returning to park.

Nice seaside town, great beach with some rocks. Interesting South pier with little RNLI shop and free musuem/fishing boat.

Pavilion and Pier - Lowestoft

The walk along the seafront is wonderful. Being disabled and walking with a walker it is imperative that pavements are level and undamaged, and the whole stretch of Lowestoft promenade is brilliant. It’s wide enough to have a dedicated cycle path through the middle of it too, although people were completely ignoring the signs and just walking in it when there were lots of cyclists and skateboarders that were trying to use it, so they had to ride around these wallies making it quite dangerous at times.

Our hotel was at the top of the hill and the walk down to the Pavillion/Harbour took us a good while, but it was a wonderful walk with a number of benches to stop for a rest looking out to see. There are a few bars to stop off for a drink and a few kiosks to enjoy an ice lolly or a donut (or two 😂). The Pavillion is a large area, so nice and easy to get around with my walker. Too many places are so crammed now making it difficult for me or those with wheelchairs/buggys to get around, but there’s plenty of space inside. They have music playing and there are a number of different eateries and a bar too, but for me it didn’t have a relaxing atmosphere, it felt very much like a school canteen inside - PTSD!!!!!
I needed to use the (disabled) toilet which has a radar key lock, but it was open for all to use and at there was NO toilet paper in the double dispenser!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily I always have a napkin in my walker, but it goes too show that these things aren’t kept on top of.

The whole Pier area absolutely stank of sewage on both days we were there with a septic tank truck making an almighty racket for what seemed like forever! The acrid stench filled the air, perhaps this should be done at night when holiday makers are not about.

AND GOD FORBID, DON’T VENTURE ANY FURTHER - Lowestoft Town Centre is disgusting! It’s really run down, most of the shops are shut and the council have allowed the seagulls to completely take over roosting above the shops, so there’s masses AND I MEAN MASSES of poop EVERYWHERE. Why hadn’t anything been done to clean it up so it was clean and tidy for the start of the 6 weeks holidays?! Shop Doorways literally look like they’ve had huge cans of white paint poured all over the place and IT ABSOLUTELY STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN!!! You would think perhaps the food/take-away shops would clean up outside their doorways to entice people in if the council aren’t going to bother, but NO. It truly is DISGUSTING!!!

Couldn’t be more disappointed with how rude the customer service was. Disgusting attitudes from the fish and chip shop staff member who was so incredibly rude! I personally will never ever attend this establishment whilst I’ve got breath in my lungs!

The Pavillion has been ‘done up’ and has a lovely food court in it. We visited on a Saturday lunchtime and were really pleased. I ate a brilliant halloumi salad bowl from the Mexican - Tres Hermanas and my husband ate at Oishii Street Kitchen. The bar situated in the pavilion was also great and we enjoyed some freshly made ice teas. All great service and nice, calm atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

A visit to the seaside Lowestoft is such a lovely spit. A very beautiful part if England. As it is the Most Easterly part of the British Isles it has amazing sunrises.

On our visit to Lowestoft’s seafront we had walked from Pakefield to the harbour and went along the pier to see the fishermen ( there were no catches of note ) and then came back to the arcade
We wasted a whole £1 of 2pence pieces winning a load of tokens which we gave to a small child ( with their parents permission)
All very enjoyable

As piers go South Pier is quite a big one, though mostly closed when we visited it is an impressive structure. Parking in the Area can be an issue
