We went here after visiting RHS Bridgewater & the difference between a young garden & a well-established, mature one was very marked.
We loved it here, the kitchen garden, the Italian garden, the topiary & the tower garden are all excellent. The Japanese garden was unfortunately closed, but looked excellent from the outside.
There are many fine trees and other interesting things to see in the grounds.
Definitely recommended.

Very good entrance price for what is there. Really well kept grounds and parkland. Hall is well looked after. All staff and volunteers were very helpful. Nice café and group of shops.

This is such a special garden and the gardeners who work here really love the place and you can feel that throughout the extensive grounds which are very well cared for. The Japanese garden is absolutely stunning. The parkland and lakes are also beautiful and the sense of space is wonderful and it is not too busy.

Overall a bit underwhelming and set up to rinse money from prospective visitors. Firstly it is £8 to park with no discount for NT members. Secondly, the mansion was closed although it said it was open on the website. Thirdly, you are bled by instalments. Mansion £8, Gardens £8 (free to RHS members), Farm £8, Tour of Japanese Gardens £5.. We liked the Fernery and Conservatory. Nice buildings and nice plants. The walk within the trees and around (but not in) the Japanese Gardens was very pleasant. The mansion is a very austere and ugly building and the Italian Gardens were lacking in plants. The American Garden has been dug up and abandoned. The Rose Garden was run down, with poorly maintained specimens and very few varities. The walled kitchen garden was also in need of some TLC. Parts were well presented, but others were overrun with weeds. The Tower Garden was a pleasant and peaceful hideaway but could have benefitted with some more interesting planting. We decided to finish by doing the maze which was very poorly signposted. It took us 45 minutes to find it. The NT should spend more money on facilities in their care, and less money paying their top executives and supporting an left wing political agenda. Then they might encourage more members and helpers and have a more impressive offering.

Great place to have a wander around. Much of the activities are slightly expensive. Would recommend just enjoy the grounds and if you have the spare pounds see the gardens.

First visit to the attraction for over 20 years. My party included my 3 year granddaughter and 87 year old father in law. What should have been an enjoyable day spoilt by:
(a) poor online information that clearly does not define "concessions" and
(b) poor signage for the land train with no clear dates and times in operation exasperated by poor/confusing online map and handout map

I've been going to Tatton for years with my 3 children for the space and great outdoors. I have always bought quarterly passes.
Whilst the huge expanse of wonderful countryside and wildlife are the draw, I have always kept the playground as the 'carrot' at the end of a visit to keep my kids walking.
Of late, however, the children can't be fooled.
We visited today and there were 4 pieces of equipment roped off due to disrepair in addition to empty zip wires and a balance beam that my 6 year old discovered was broken (not roped off). The large slide/ frame has been broken since the park reopened after the first lockdown in 2020 and, whilst I recognise that there has been some time for catch up required, it's beyond reasonable now. Each time we visit the children give a 'What now?' sigh.
Tatton appears as busy as ever and site entry fees from day trippers (£8 a car) and those from loyal regulars such as myself must be enough to cover these repairs.
The fact that the orange roped off areas can be seen from the car park is also at odds with the new information desk/ rebranding.
A real focus on this area is needed as, with everything in working order, there really is no place like it for families.

£8 to park
£8 per person Into the garden
Mansion closed
Park half blocked off as broken
£8 per person into the farm
Farm is small and boring
Expensive “train” which was £3 for adults and £2.50 for kids
Basically 4 adults and 3 kids for the day was £140!!! And the mansion isn’t open and half of the park is blocked off as it’s broken.
Not good value for money!!!
Only positive is it was quiet but that’s for obvious reasons.

Tatton Park is a lovely place to visit, especially when the weather is nice. The gardens are sensational, especially the Japanese gardens which I have only ever seen here. So many flowers to admire whilst your walking round. We went to the Tatton Park RHS flower show last year, which was also a beautiful day out. Images are a mixture of the park and the flower show.

Looking at going this this weekend to take my baby to the farm for the first time but looked on your website and you have got even more expensive £9.50 for parking you dont even pay that in city centres!! Also no discount for national trust members we now have to pay £8 each for the farm on top of that! Far cheaper to just go for a walk in the countryside and find him some animals to see that way or park on the street and just take him on a short walk about the park. Maybe you would rather have less visitors.

are dogs on leads allowed in the gardens
Hello Margaret, dogs are not allowed in the Gardens, unfortunately. Unless they are a service animal. Many thanks.

Can I bring my dog into the farm on a lead
Hello, you may bring a dog to the Farm as long as it is kept on a lead throughout your visit. Please note, visits to the Farm are now by pre-booked, timed entry only, including NT members. Please visit our website for info and to book. Many thanks!

Thanks for the Q - yes, dogs under control are allowed in the parkland, stableyard area and at the farm. Only assistance dogs in the gardens and mansion we're afraid.

We have been told dog owners have been
turned away at the stars and stripes venues at tattoo park is this correct or are dogs allowed?

Yes dogs Ieads are allowed, but stars and Stripes is not an ideal event to take a dog to as its very crowded and you get cars revving up with exhaust fumes right in dogs faces.
Hi. Does anyone know of any coach day trips from Liverpool to Tatton Park please?

What’s the best way to get there from Manchester City Centre? No car.
Hi - by public transport the easiest route is a train to Knutsford (regular services from Manchester Piccadilly) and then the estate is a short walk from Knutsford train station. The walk from our Knutsford entrance to the Mansion/Gardens etc is approx. 2 miles, or you could pick up a taxi in Knutsford for that final leg.

Can you walk around the Japanese garden without a guide ? If not, how much of it do you get to see ?
Hi there! The Japanese Garden is normally closed to the public due to its very fragile nature. As noted above, we do offer tours with a guide (in high season for the public, or pre-arranged at any other time) but it is possible to see the entirety of the Japanese Garden by following the circular path around the outside.
