Private tours are great!

We chose the Orkney West Mainland Tour instead of the cruise line's big bus excursion, and it was definitely the right decision. It was an easy walk to meet the van at the Kirkwall Travel Centre. Chris was our knowlegeable guide who didn't rush us at each stop. Our small group of 7 enjoyed the day visiting the Cliffs of Yesnaby, Skara Brae, the Skaill House, the Ring of Brodgar, and the Standing Stones of Stenness where we parked and wandered among the stones and sheep. We got a real feel for the area and learned a lot. It's amazing to realize that some of these sites are 5000 years old and you appreciate the efforts to conserve them after they were discovered. Highly recommended tour!

Thank you so much to Chris our amazing guide. It was an amazing experience. He took his time, told us all about the history and we learned so much. We have wanted for years to visit Orkney and he made it such a worthwhile experience. Loved every minute of it.

Do this semi private off the beaten path tour!

This tour is the one to go on. We had a passionate guide/driver who loves his country and showing it off. Dougie took us to places no coach could, shared so many interesting stories and history. It’s a beautiful country and this is the absolute best way to see it. Skip the ship tours and take this one. Enjoy!

Phenomenal tour!
The tour was wonderful! Garry was very personable and knowledgeable. The weather was perfect and we learned so much about the rich history of Orkney.

Best way to see main sights on Orkney even with limited time

What an amazing day! Our driver, Dougie met us right at the ship. There were seven of us in the van. We got to see more than we had even counted on. Had extra time so we went to Yesnabi , Cliffs, and Saint Magnus Cathedral. That was in addition to the sites that were planned: Scara brae, stones of Stenness, Ring of Brodgar…. Having a local share history, stories of daily life and take us places the big buses can’t go was well worth it! And cheaper than similar excursion offered by the ship. We told him last call was 1:30 and we wanted to get back by 1:00… arrived at 1:00 exactly!!!! Highly recommend!!!!

Orkney Travel were Excellent

I booked the West Mainland trip with Orkney Travel & was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately I mistakenly booked it for the wrong day & as our cruise ship was there the day before (31/8/23) I couldn’t do the trip on 1/9/23.
I spoke to Gary at Orkney Travel on the 31st & he advised to try to cancel via TripAdvisor( Viator)
I did struggle to find details to cancel but eventually sent email & spoke to Viator. Stacey at Orkney Travel was very helpful & I did get a full refund. Thank you!
Orkney Travel staff have a good reputation locally and were very kind & helpful. I would definitely use them if I am in Orkney again.

Get Ron as your tour guide!!!!

Superb tour of the island of Hoy. I dont want to give away any surprises. Ron is an OUTSTANDING tour guide. Very highly recommended. Great mix of humor, history and a very in depth knowledge of the islands

A thoroughly enjoyable day on Hoy. Dougie our guide is extremely knowledgable and the tour more than met expectations. Favourite points in the day were a picnic lunch at Rackwick Bay and the tour of the Longhope Lifeboat Museum. We also enjoyed trips to a viewpoint on Lyrawa Hill, the Dwarfie Stane and Lyness Museum. We recommend this tour to give you an experience of all of Hoy.

Great Day tour of Hoy

Ron was a great guide with lots of tales to tell for our day tour of Hoy. If I had brought my car over to Hoy and driven myself I would never have found half the fantastic places he took us to or known the history. Highly recommended. Thank you Ron and Orkney Travel.Liz.
