What a fantastic little find! Excellent, locally produced chutneys and baked goods. They are now available all over Orkney in many delis and souvenir shops but the “mothership” is simply a little honesty cupboard in Birsay on the outer wall of the house where it seems all the production takes place! All the chutneys are very tasty and the fattie cutties are quite the discovery! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the NW of the mainland.

Sadly the virus seems to have put paid to a number of Orkney’s fabled “Honesty Boxes” but not the famous yellow box of Birsay. To discover this was like stepping back into my childhood when down a country lane or by a farmer’s gate there was a honesty box with fresh produce & all sorts of sweet & savoury treats were available. Trust is a precious thing & was wonderful that JP Orkney trust people so much that they have even have a way of paying when cash is not an option. Some delicious homemade spiced beetroot relish, piccalilli, rhubarb jam and amazing tablet that are worth making regular return trips for. 😋

We are thrilled you like our ‘yellow box of Birsay’. It’s certainly put a smile on folks faces these last few months as it has ours too. Seasonal treats will be appearing soon 😋😉

We rented JP Orkney's amazing electric camper van and also their 2 bedroom flat in the heart of Kirkwall to fulfill the trip of a lifetime. We visited in January with our small child during the winter storms of gale wind and rain and had the field trip adventures of a lifetime. Not only where we warm and cozy in our hired electric ride to visit all the ancient sites we were zero emissions! Our guesthouse flat in Kirkwall was comfortable and well stocked. We recommend JP Orkney if you travel to The Orkney Island, Scotland! They also make the best goodies including Rhubarb Jam & Vanilla Tablet!

We rented Spoot, an electric camper van on the Isle of Orkney and had a great vacation. We were met at the airport, received an orientation so we would know how charging, etc. Worked, and then off we went. First stop was the grocery for supplies. Next stop was everywhere. We spent a couple nights in campgrounds and a couple nights wild camping. We saw great archaeological sites, colonies of seabirds, breweries and distilleries, and just about the entire main island. We got to cook for ourselves, so we ate wherever and whenever we wanted and sleeping was comfortable and cozy. Spoot had everything we needed without the carbon footprint!

We went for a day tour with Jane and took in Deerness Distillery, J Gow Distillery, the Italian Chapel, the Churchill Barriers, the Gloup Scapa Flow and Sheila Fleet's workshop. Sounds like a lot to pack in (all tailor-made for us via email prior to our trip) but it was all done at a leisurely pace (never felt rushed) with lots of fun and interesting chat along the way while we buzzed around in her electric van! And the cherry on the top was a little goodie bag with some amazing foodie surprises.....the homemade bits were particularly awesome 😁If you're looking for a high-quality tour with a super friendly and relaxed atmosphere, then I would highly recommend doing a tour with JP Orkney 👍🏼
