- hihellocarolineUnited Kingdom110 contributionsNice bar with good gin and cocktailsVisited the bar for a spontaneous drink - ordered the gin flight which came with four generous shots of various Kirkjuvagr gin. We ordered some mixers to go with. The staff were very helpful and provided us with an info card to explain the tasting notes. The seating area is also modern yet comfortably laid out, with bar areas that have USB charging plugs. Also serves coffee and tea.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 October 2023
- Stuart B1 contributionAll ahead fullGreat way to spend a cold wet October afternoon in Kirkwall after exploring neolithic Orkney. Very informative and enjoyable. Never knew gin was so easy to make in so many variants. Might set up my own still.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 October 2023
- Jerry VLong Beach, California1 contributionA must visit, learned so much and tasted exceptional! This was a very nice break from the whiskey tours to take in some of the best Gin I have tasted. The tour group was a good size and not overwhelming. Our guide was young but very knowledgeable and we learned so much. They have a quaint beer/drinking garden in the back where we could enjoy our cocktails after the tour.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 October 2023
- Claire D1 contributionIf you hate gin, you will walk out loving itIf you love gin you will LOVE The Orkney Distillery. My boyfriend and I booked a gin tasting and tour of The Orkney Distillery in October of 2023. My boyfriend went along with me as a favor, as he doesn't usually like gin. Our guide gave an interesting history about gin, the aromatics, the Orkney Islands, and The Orkney Distillery. As soon as we began the tasting, we were amazed with the gin. Most of all, my boyfriend liked it. Throw all your gin expectations away as it is nothing at all like Bombay or Tanqueray, but on another level of its own merit. I have not a single complaint upon my visit to The Orkney Distillery - if anything, I can't wait to go back. A+ staff, A+ location, A+ customer service, and most importantly A++ gin. All of our love from Michigan, Claire & ChadVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 October 2023
- Mike L3 contributionsMagical ginI think I have been converted!!! I was just a whisky drinker until I met Niall from the distillery who suggested I give this great gin a try. It is light on the tongue, rich in botanicals and delights every time. Perfect by the fire in winter and I look forward to when I can drink it outside on a summer's evening! - Tom Price95 contributionsCheers to OwenAn excellent tour from Owen Griffith, a true asset to the company. We learnt an incredible amount about not just the Kirkjuvagr distilling process but how the local resources and traditions have shaped their company and their products. Owen was more than happy to answer all our questions about the area after the tour. The gin here really hits different to anything that you would have had before. An excellent bar area. Our expectations were high and they were exceeded by the location, the gin and especially the staff. Northwest Passage Expedition gin is a must try.Hi Tom, thanks so much for popping by, was a treat to have you. I found the whole experience fascinating, especially the tasting of the four different strength and taste/ flavours of gin. I would definitely recommend this tour it’s definitely a marvellous experience!I’m so glad that you enjoyed the experience and I hope you enjoy your trip around Scotland! - Jacob G1 contributionDelightful, Delicious, and “Unmistakably Orcadian.”This was such an incredible experience. The distillery is small and intimate and the staff are so connected to the product and passion that runs through the entire process. Our tour guide, Owen, was fantastic. A local Orcadian with a wealth of knowledge when it came to Orkney and the production of their spirits. He made my sister and I feel right at home and the tour and tasting was conversational, fun, informative, and delightful!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 May 2024

The gin distillery tour was brilliant and well worth doing. They give you a complimentary drink on arrival which you can sip and enjoy during the tour (due to covid, they are currently running the whole tour without you having to leave your chair which they have done very well). The lady who ran our tour was very friendly and informative knew what she was talking about and I learned a lot during my visit. Including the origin of each gin (very interesting).
The taster session I got to try 5 types of gin, which is provided in shot glasses to sip neat, but they provide tonic water if you wish. As well as this they offered 10% off sales in the shop after our visit so that I could choose my favourite gin and purchase a bottle or two with some money off! There are also accessories in the shop including lovely smelling candles.
If you are driving, they offer a complimentary non-alcoholic drink but still give you the gin tasters to smell and compare too.
Overall, we had a fantastic hour and a half at Orkney gin distillery and would recommend to gin lovers visiting the island.

A very interesting and thoroughly enjoyable visit to The Orkney Distillery to learn how Kirkjuvagr Gin is made. Our host, Lilly, looked after us very well and passed on her knowledge of the gin-making process in a friendly but also most professional manner. Thoroughly recommended.

Highly recommend, the tour is quite informal, extremely informative, and well presented. Our tour guide was Tegan who not only gave us all we needed to know about the distillery, the processes, and the history and more, but delivered it with passion and enthusiasm. Very pleased and of course the gin is excellent.

We weredue in Kirkwell on a cruise itinerary and booked tickets directly with the distillery online. The complimentary shuttle bus from the ship to the town stopped just a few minutes walk away. There was a presentation done in a small group. An informative video and talk, with the opportunity to ask questions. 4 samples of the distilleries core gins to taste. Tour of the factory finished off with a complimentary gin of your choice at the bar. A couple of hours very well spent, with a money off voucher on purchases to boot.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared the history of this relatively new distillery. The tour was well priced for the tour, tasters and information our tour guide Kirsty gave us. Who knew you could grow oranges albeit small ones in Orkney. Well worth the money.

Excellent morning, very informative, the host Jon was very knowledgeable and personable. Really good tour and lots of information. Tasting notes with the samples, and recommendations on mixers. The raw ingredients in the jars was also informative and the background that went along with them. There is free parking opposite and very cheap paid parking for up to 8 hours very close by. There was also 10% off merchandise and gins after the tour. If you haven't done the tour, the cafe bar downstairs is open to all, and has all the drinks and fresh coffee. Likewise if you wanted to up spec the standard tour, there is also an all day version where you get to make your own gin.

Fab tour in-spite of COVID. Lily was a very knowledgeable tour guide, with some interesting gin facts. Taster shots of deliciously different gins, followed by a G&T of your choice and 10% off all purchases making it great value. Highly recommend 👍🏻

We accompanied my brother and his wife who are visiting us here in Orkney. We’ve recommended the tour to other family members but never done it ourselves before. What a lovely experience. Our guide Lily was friendly, approachable and very knowledgeable. She created an informal atmosphere and encouraged us to enjoy and savour the tasting experience. I particularly liked that merchandise was available and drawn to our attention but there was no hard selling. Nice that a discount was offered on some purchases. I wonder if a discount card could be provided for those who aren’t ready to make a purchase on the day, for instance if the recipient of the present is with you. All in all a pleasurable experience.

It's great to see some top notch reviews on here for the Orkney Distilery. However on a recent visit our experience fell sort of that. We were a group of 9 ordering cocktails at £8.50 each - the system wouldn't work, the staff couldn't get it to work and couldn't take an order 'the old fashioned way' so sadly we had to leave

We booked the tour of the Orkney Distillery at relatively short notice.
In a nice small group (maximum 16 people are possible) there was an overview of the history of the gin and the distillery. The tasting was also great (even for non-drinkers!).
Our guide, Hannah, was super friendly and entertaining and also the catering afterwards was great and I was even mixed together on request a mocktail that is not on the menu.
Value for money is more than justified and the Orkney Distillery is definitely worth a visit.
