Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You may miss this or think you can`t go in but its well worth the effort. The pre-Raphaelite designed stained glass windows are wonderful. Easy to park next to the Town Hall as well in a free car park close to the town centre. There are steep steps to get to the town but if you can find a place in the lower level of the car park its less of a climb

Glad we were told to visit this. The stain glass windows are amazing. The detail, you really have to see.
It looked shut when we went , but you must try the door. Lovely helpful staff.

You can see the Town Hall at the top of the hill from your ship in the harbor. Walk up, look at the stonework, view the clock, see the stained glass - and move on. Walk down to see Fort Charlotte and then the town itself. Narrow streets, shops, the old hotels and buildings. See if you can spot the sand beach. We were on a cruise and time was short. I believe this could be a nice "get away from it all" vacation.

While in Lerwick walking on Charlotte St. in front of the Town Hall, a passerby eagerly told us not to miss the amazing display upstairs. We took this advice, going up the stairs immediately across from the entrance. At the landing halfway up, there was a spectacular stained glass window facing the back of the building. This was just a teaser for what lay ahead. In the large hall at the top of the stairs, three walls contain a stunning array of stained glass windows depicting various historical figures. Wow - Don't miss this opportunity!

There is a website showing these: http://shetlopedia.com/Town_Hall_Windows but, it hardly compares to seeing them in person, particularly on a sunny day.

The entry for this working public building is free. Town Hall, clearly marked, is located on Charlotte St. up the hill from the dock where cruise ship tenders arrive. A short walk among pleasant buildings in this marvelous town gets you to Town Hall. Feel lucky if you visit Lerwick, all the more so to gaze upon these magnificent stained glass windows.

TIP: Don't miss the fresh fish and chips at the Fort Cafe down the hill across from Fort Charlotte. Best ever!

Worth the visit just for the stained glass. Take the time to read the descriptions and reason behind each window. Worth the time.

We spent the night in this impressive building in the main hall with its vaulted wooden ceiling not unlike an upturned ships hull and the highly polished wood floor was a pleasure to dance on or to watch the Guises to there performances through the night until dawn an experiance that will live with us for ever thank you all.

No trip to Lerwick, Shetland Islands, would be complete without visiting the Town Hall.
Upstairs, the large meeting room has a beautiful series of stained glass windows, depicting the colourful Nordic history of the area. The entire area around the Town Hall is the old town and very
beautiful to stroll around, and breathe in the history of this quaint village.

Lerwick has somewhere to be very proud of in its Victorian Town Hall. The staircase, the main hall and a smaller assembly room are freely open to the public when not in use for meetings.. The stained glass is magnificent, as is the woodwork. Together they tell much of the history of the Islands and of the town. On a sunny day the colours are vibrant. I left it till the final morning of my stay but was so glad that I didn't miss it

Very busy the day we visited as Cruise ships in port. However, the windows are beautiful and certainly worth viewing. The outside of building was restored 2/3 years ago.
