Built in the Gothic Flemish style in 1883 by architect Alexander Ross of Inverness and builder John M.Aitken of Lerwick, the Town Hall is definitely one of the best attractions in Shetland. Mainly for its superb stained glass windows, among the best in whole Britain. The coloured details are impressive and witness the glamour era of the town, when the... More

Whilst not in active use as a town hall any more (too small), the building is accessible to tourists and is worth a visit to admire the impressive stained glass windows. Keep heading up hill if you struggle to find it as it's one of Lerwick's highest buildings too. Free parking by the road close by and no refreshments at... More

Just a short walk up to the town hall to see the beautiful stained glass windows. A gentleman gave us a great tour and lots of historic information. If you love architecture this is a great site to visit.

This would have to be the best Town Hall I have ever visited. It certainly not most city halls look like and resembles more of a church than civic building.

History just seeps out of the wally and through the windows. The Shetlands were very much a part of the old viking heritage and the history is very convoluted and well worth trying to understand how it all fits together. Our thanks to the Mayor for the few minutes he spent with us unworthy visitors during his busy day.

Well worth a visit. The chambers downstairs with their stained glass windows are super but upstairs is just a wonder. The glass all tells a story and is spectacular. Do go and visit.

Lovely building and a little known fact - the building holds a Troll! You must ask to see it as it has to be locked away in case it escapes and causes havoc
