Having been to several other textile displays in Shetland I found this disappointing. The Shetland Museum had a much better collection and is free. Beautiful things on display, but mostly items for sale. We were probably in there around 10 minutes

such friendly staff and well put together exhibits – it´s not often that you´ll find that hidden away in a tiny corner of the harbour/industrial area of a little town. you might need a car to get out there (you can walk from the "city centre", too, if you bring some time and an umbrella ;–) but then: you´ll probably be... My husband just parks up in the car park outside and gets stuck into a good book whenever I go to the Bod of Gremista because he knows he won't see me for ages. It is a very small museum (two rooms downstairs and two up) but if you are into textiles you can spend a long time appreciating all... More

Amazing little museum dedicated to knitting and all things textile! Really friendly staff, beautiful displays and just makes you want to get those knitting needles out. Combine this with a visit to Jamieson's Mill at Sandwick and ask at the Hay's Dock museum to see the pattern archives which are based elsewhere in lerwick. if you can get to Yell,... More

With the rush of wool week participants occupying the museum staff, we took a self tour and looked around and in this small cottage. Although small a lot of history of the crafts of the islands were packed into the spaces.

My wife and I enjoyed our visit here. It's very small but the staff is very friendly. Some intersting stories about textiles in Shetland.

We went on the last day of wool week. I am not sure what the exhibits would be like on a normal day. The Bod of Gremista is on the edge of Lerwick when heading north. It is a small museum but the quality of the knitting and lace exhibits is excellent, don't forget to look in the drawers. The... More

There was very little to see for your £2 entrance fee. The jumpers and lace were lovely but we thought we were actually going to see how the garments and rugs were made. We were only in there for 15 minutes as there was just 3 small rooms to look around.

The Bod is now a great textile museum housed in this historic building with some wonderful examples of Shetland lace and knitting. There is usually a couple of informative people knitting and spinning there who will answer your questions about Shetland textiles
