Small little castle on a small little Island. The views are spectacular and the boat ride was fun going over. Went many times as a child and always thought it was an adventure. Very peaceful and lots of time for reflection. Would highly recommend for...More

My family and I booked tickets to take the ferry over to the island. Although the first trip was cancelled due to stormy weather the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed wandering around the island which had few visitors that day but also...More

We parked near the water, but we didn't have time to take the ferry. I don't think it was running anyway, because the winds were very strong (and cold). We went down to the dock, and I noticed that you can see the castle from...More

Good value for money as it includes the 10 minute boat trip. Would be a great place to take your picnic over to on a nice day. The castle had much more still to see than I thought from the view you get from the...More

This castle sits on an island in the middle of Lochleven. It's a short, 10-15 minute ferry ride to the island, which I'm told in busier times you should book in advance to make sure of a place, as each boat only holds 10 people....More

We really enjoyed this visit. Small boat ride included in the ticket which is your only means of visiting the castle is travelling across the Loch. The castle just has so much history and it was very informative..Could just imagine Mary Queen of Scots looking...More

We always enjoy the short ferry trip to Castle Island and often have a picnic on a nice day there before catching a ferry back to the Pier. Truly historical Castle with an aura not to be missed if you are in the area.

. It can be booked on line and you will be given a timed slot. Ideal when during busy periods. You can also turn up on the day but may have to wait. If you have children with you there is a play park nearby.

Yes, when we were there, there were plenty on board of the boat. They are not mandatory, but we were told that whoever wanted one, could you get one.
