How can a marquee golf course such as the Isle of Purbeck be reduced to such an. appalling condition? The course isn't just bad or unloved, it has just been totally neglected for a long period of time. The fairways are almost unplayable with vast areas completely bare of grass. The greens, whilst slightly better than they were several months ago, are as bad as you will have ever experienced. Its all very well saying the weather has created these conditions but other courses in the area have managed to present an acceptable course so why not Purbeck? Excuses will be made but the simple fact is that the green staff have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Equally, there has been no investment in this course for many years and it certainly shows. If you need proof of this, try finding an on course ball washer that actually works, and this on a course that is supposedly ranked in the top 100 UK courses! This sounds like overkill, but when you have paid £55, (£70 for a Saturday), for a round on this course be prepared to admire the view because there is nothing else that makes the experience worth while. A really great shame.

This course can only claim credit for the views and clubhouse welcome. As so many others report the golf course is very poorly presented. Fairways are atrocious - no grass and no definition. There was evidence of burrowing animals on many fairways but no sign of any green keeper activity to repair or improve. This course relies on its “must play” reputation but I would say it is definitely not in that category. Do not just rely on my comments, please see the many reports which confirm my views.

On reading the previous reviews of this golf course it was easy to perceive that they were written with a biased anti (I had a bad round) Isle of Purbeck perception. Having now experienced the golf course for myself, I can’t specify strongly enough how incredibly poor this golfing experience was. The views aside, the golf has had no love and no care for a long period of time.If the green fee was £10 it would be too much. The fairways are indeed the worst you will ever play on, even if you went to Djibouti you would find a finer surface to play golf on than the fairways of the Isle of Purbeck. Local members told us that the previous day was the club championship event. Therefore the course was in the finest condition they could possibly present it. I can only feel sadness for the members of the Isle of Purbeck golf course. The only redeeming factor of the course are its views. These you can take in without having to invest in the golf course. From the purchased practice balls from the pro shop (filthy and of extremely poor quality) to the final putt on the 18th green, this was a ‘ hell’ of a golfing experience that is not to be repeated. I do not normally write negative reviews but this was singularly the worst golf course I’ve played in 40 years. I find it astonishing that the course is either not closed or charging a fee for visitors to recreate on their facility.

I have to agree with recent reviews the fairways are in a terrible state, more bare lies than grass. If you are playing, I would recommend you agree to placing on the fairways. The greens where fine. Great layout but not worth playing until they get the fairways back. Plus points the scenery is staggering, which ever way you look. The staff was friendly and the club house holds a great position to view the area.

The setting, table and view were 5 star. And it is only this that drags the meal up to an overall rating of 3 stars. However, great to not be rushed through a meal. Very attentive Food not special at all. Bland and lukewarm. Don't bother with thinking how wonderful you get two yorkshire puddings, but very tough, so if you get through 2 that is an achievement. Forgot to mention the ginger house (aka bread with starter), not great. Heyho, overall food was good and filling, staff great, and would go again, just needs to upgrade a bit Apart from that had an awesome time
