Took our Grandson here for a day trip out. Lots to look at if you are interested in the history of railways. Took the round trip on the train and it was very nice. Lovely to see people stopping to wave as you went past our Grandson loved it. The volunteers are excellent and the train driver ticket inspector are... More

I havent been on the train for years but imagine it is a good attraction for families who can afford it. I usually go there for a brisk 2 or 3 mile walk in all seasons. So much industrial history and red kites sometimes seen. There is a good cafe too.

If you like history and mechanical things, go visit. The volunteer staff let you get away with walking around and asking questions. For a photographer, it's a gold mine especially when the trains are out and under power.

This is our second visit to the railway at Christmas. We visited on the 22nd December this year and again booked one of the later trains. This year was amazing again. There were 22 of us this year ranging from very small children to one of the party in his 60's. This railway and the people who work there are... More

Trip to see Santa at North Pole Express on 22nd December with a 7 and nearly 3 year old! Got the last train at 4pm so could see much of the beautiful countryside but the 2 stops at either end of the route were all lit up in the dark! Greeted by an elf and ice queen on arrival and... More

Just back from the North Pole Express at Tanfield Railway with my daughter, daughter in law and toddler grandchildren. What a fabulous experience! Everyone there has worked so hard to make this a magical visit for the kids. The staff/volunteers made the visit, they were so friendly and helpful. From the extremely cheerful snow queen/fairy, to the very huggable Frosty... More

A family outing to the north pole to see santa with three children, we all loved it and had a great time, great presents for the kids. A well organised day, busy but not to busy with lots for the kids to see. Nothing was rushed, the staff were fantastic and they seem to have the timings spot on for... More

A lovely family adventure to the North Pole. From Santa to the elves, all were entertaining and enthusiastic. Parents, grandparents and children all had a lovely time. Well organised including parking. Can't wait to book for next year.
