Started out in the car park and walked up to and around the fantastic Angel of the North. A brilliant sight. Heading further down one of the paths lead us into the woods and on to a trail that we followed all the way to Longacre Woods which then brought us back around through Birtley and back to the Angel.
A lovely walk for all the family around this fantastic artwork.

Impressive sculpture
Aug 2021 • Couples
Impressive statue, more impressed with the wing span rather than its height. Expected to have views outwardly too, so that kind of gets you to move along rather than spend more time there. Car park is relatively small and was very full with cars parked on the grass banking on the slip road back onto the dual carriageway.

Ordinary angel
Aug 2021
The angel doesn't loom over the landscape nor call you to your destination as impressively as I thought it would and the fact it seems to be tacked onto the back end of a municipal football pitch, lends further an air of matter-of-factness to this icon.
It's not until you get really close up to the figure does a sense of magnificence and wonder start to creep in.
Slightly disappointed in the angel of the north, I expected something a little more awe-inspiring, but that's probably down more to my heightened expectations based on not much rather than the angel itself.
For all that, still worthy of a quick detour off the A1(M) and 15 minutes or so of your time.

Best 5 Minutes on the A1 you can have!
Aug 2021 • Couples
What’s not to like? Free parking, giant metal angel, 2 minutes of the A1M. Got to be worth a stop surely?! Plus Morrison’s projected a giant baguette onto it once.

Iconic for the area
Jul 2021 • Friends
A must go to once place when your in the area.
Free car park made stopping safe and easy.
Little coffee van for refreshments
You walk down the hill to snap a picture as the angel is to big to fit in close up. It is only close up you realise how big it is. There is a notice board with some facts and information
Probably only 30 minutes of your life, but definitely work a visit

Landmark Visit
Jul 2021 • Couples
Having lived in the surrounding area all my life had to visit at some point, this iconic landmark.
Easy to find obviously there is a small car park, a coffee/snack van was there the day we visited. There was a steady stream of people coming and going so a popular stop off point.
You can walk around the area a little and walk right up to the Angel. There is some sort of memorial area where things have been left by the public visiting. Some people were relaxing on the grass area. A peaceful relaxing place to visit.

Quick worthwhile stop
Aug 2021 • Family
This is completely free to stop in a small car park and walk around and up to. Visited on a Sunday late afternoon and got some lovely pictures. It’s quite busy. They probably need to empty the littler bins a bit more often but I’m being picky. Totally free and even has its own website. 33m visitors per year apparently.

How do I get there from central Newcastle by public transport?

Hi, the Angel is on the A167 Durham Road just before it joins the A1.
There are loads of buses that use this road as a southern route out of the Newcastle/Gateshead conurbation. I don't use that many buses so can't recommend anything other than the X21/21/22 services which all go to Durham.
It's only 5 miles from the station to the Angel, so a taxi may work out as cheaper if there were a few of you to share?
Hope you enjoy your visit.

Is the Angel male or female

The sculpture is designed to capture our imaginations so it's not identifiable as male or female, you see the form as you want to see it whether that's male or female.
Either way the angel is stunning and you will enjoy a visit :o))

How do you get there I'm going to be staying in Gateshead at a hotel?
How much does it cost?

Take a bus from Gateshead interchange, or a taxi (there's no flagging down a taxi, it's all private hire). Monument itself is free
