About
The Stairway to Heaven, is set in the picturesque Cuilcagh Mountain, just a short journey (10 miles) from Enniskillen town in County Fermanagh. The Trail meanders through one of the largest expanses of blanket bog in Northern Ireland, traversing over tracks, boardwalk and staircase. Your final ascent is via a steep section of steps, these are not for the faint of heart! Preparation: The weather and cloud conditions on Cuilcagh Mountain are ever changing and can change very quickly. You need to be well equipped for this walk wearing comfortable walking shoes, waterproof clothing, snack and don’t forget the camera!

Park at Brown Sign Official Car Park
Sep 2021 • Family
We did this walk yesterday, unfortunately we were directed to a car park that was 3 1/2 kilometres away from the official car park. The price is the same £5, just follow the brown signs and if people wave you down like what happened to us just ignore them.
The actual boardwalk is about 2.5 k from the closest car park, it is very up and down so you need to be fit - we went up and back in 2 1/2 hours - would have been 2 if we parked in the correct car park
It is breathtakingly beautiful
We went to the Caves and had a really nice lunch

Worth the trek

We chose a relatively warm day for this, which in hindsight was not ideal. The walk is uphill right from the start, I had expected it to be flatter. But the view from the top and feeling of achievement are amazing.

Amazing experience and great views.

Better off to pay for the carpark online ( Cuilcagh boardwalk carpark- 6 pounds ) unless you want to add another few kms to your walk as the free carpark is about two kms away from the start of the trail . This is about an 11km walk in total and not for small children. It was a lovely day out and it is an medium hike. Bring drinks and a snack and make sure to use bathroom located a km away at marvel arch caves before you go as there is no ditches to hide behind. Well worth the trip. The paid carpark is in very bad condition with lots of potholes etc.

helpful tips for Cuilcagh Boardwalk
Aug 2021
here are a few things that i think would of been handy before i went.

1. car park
if you use the free carpark on the right with the coffee shop it adds a few km to the entrance of the paid car park,
Paid carpark is 6 pounds and is well worth it, if busy u will need to park in the first area, a guy their takes your name and booking ref, (i could only book 12.00 but i say u cud chance it going later with the same reference)

If the car park is quieter you can drive another 3km to the actual start of trail and final carpark which have no facilities, (go to marble arch if you need to tho)

2 trail
the next 2.75 km are loose chipping so wear good footwear , not like me ,they are mainly up hill so not very pleasant. . it felt like the longest 3 km iv ever felt,

from then on actual boardwalk, its flat for the first while but by god if the midges are out, you will get eaten, they were horrible and i think many people turned back as you could tell the top was foggy so it wasnt really worth it,
They lasted till the final staircase like bit which is a little tough but were gone by the top, which was really foggy ,

on the way down was pleasant as the midges had gone, make sure to do the little 5 min trail of boardwalk near the entrance as its nice

so in conclusion if you dont want to walk an extra 5/6 km go to the closest car park and hope its clear at the top.
it took 1.5 hours up and 1 down from that point

Tough going but well worth it
Aug 2021 • Couples
Another one of the bucket list sorted. From a couple in their sixties we were determined to hit the top of Cuilcagh and we achieved that. The day that was in it wasn't ideal , eaten with midges and heavy fog at the top , but it didn't impact our fulfillment. Book the car park on line and drive to the final car park at the start of the summit otherwise your doing a lot of unnecessary road. Should you need to use a WC , pop into the Marble Arch on route. Highly recommend.

Knackering but well worth it

Fantastic day out but be sure to be reality fit & it’s quite a climb. Park as close to start or your 6 mile hike could turn into a 9 mile one. Well worth the visit

Stairway to Heaven

The walk was very enjoyable but tough. We choose a clear, dry day which meant the view was nice at the top.

Lots of insects similar to midges landing and biting us at the stairs part of the walk. Long sleeves are best to avoid them. I would suggest bringing insect repellent or using it before the walk incase.
