About
Fermanagh County Museum at Enniskillen Castle has reopened after undergoing a £3.5 million redevelopment. Enniskillen Castle, situated beside the River Erne in County Fermanagh, was built almost 600 years ago by Gaelic Maguires. Guarding one of the few passes into Ulster, it was strategically important throughout its history. In the 17th century it became an English garrison fort and later served as part of a military barracks. This historic site houses two museums, Fermanagh County Museum and The Inniskillings Museum and Fermanagh Visitor Information Centre. Opening Hours Monday to Friday (all year round): 9.30am* - 5.00pm Saturdays (all year round): 11.00am - 5.00pm Sundays (Jun to Sept): 11.00am - 5.00pm Bank Holidays - 9:30am* - 5:00pm Closure period - Enniskillen Castle will be closed over the Christmas & New Year holiday period. *9.30am opening for new visitor centre and 10:00am for other buildings Admission

Wonderful museum.Lots of great information on a variety of topics but not too much on anything.Partivularily well laid out with younger children in mind as many interactive displays.

We were really disappointed in our visit here. We knew the Inniskillings Museum in the keep ( main part for us ) was closed but thought the rest would make up for it. Absolutely no atmosphere , felt it was more like a social history museum , and whilst really well maintained , wasn the experience we were looking for. The castle gardens were shocking .Spent so much time around other castles , this just didn't hit the mark. The staff were lovely.

We called in en route to the Erne Water Taxi (see separate review) to grab a coffee, a comfort break and briefly browse the gift shop.
The staff behind the information/retail counter and in the Cafe area were shining examples of how to "do" customer service.
We ordered drinks for the wee ones in our group and the lovely lady took the plastic tops off before handing them to the to ensure that all choking hazards were removed...who else would do that?! She was patient & friendly, full of Fermanagh personality and warmth.
Similarly, the lady who took payment for all our little purchases was so accommodating in giving separate little bags to the children (v important at their age!) and generally being chatty and welcoming.
We didn't have time to do the castle tour (and we didn't want to get in the way of the lovely wedding in progress!) but after our brief, positive experience we will definitely return to speand more time there.

The castle is lovely but the experience is poor. Little interaction and most of the displays are little more than pictures and quotes that one can get in the internet. Worst of all the regimental museum is closed to the public. So much potential.

We visited here on a day out and i would recommend this as a place worthwhile to visit. It is has lots of informative things to do for both adults and children.

There is a lot of history to learn and it is very good value as well.

Disappointedly the Inniskillings Museum was closed due to Covid restrictions & personally was the only reason I came to visit the Castle having been there in the past.

Some of the exhibits in the Coach House & Heritage Centre were interesting.

Admission £5.

Café & toilets on site.

Ample carparking.

Covid measures in place include wearing of face coverings, hand sanitizing stations, social distancing.

We visited as covid restrictions were reducing but some areas were not available. Little of the castle itself was available - understandable but unfortunate. There is a range of things to see - a diverse offering. The museum has a range of displays, covering a number of periods. In addition there is exhibition space with both a permanent and temporary exhibits. The castle is in a lovely location being sited on the bend of the river

We actually just called in here to use the bathroom but ended up spending an enjoyable few hours looking around the museums. Lovely introduction to Enniskillen's history.

If your into your history this is the place to visit, a lot of things to see, note the adjoining Inniskillings regimental museum is shut at the moment, which was disappointing.
