I visited the Royal Forest of Dean in September which is a beautiful time of the year. There are some great places to visit including the Sculpture Walk (7 miles) and Symonds Yat (a lovely walk to the river, but very steep), as well as the local towns including Lydney, Coleford, Cinderford and Monmouth right on the edge of the... Great for crisp winter days with sun shining through the leaves, plenty of variation, hills, rivers etc. Nice day out in the fresh air!

You can travel for miles and the views are splendid, the villages are full of character joined up with playing some nice gently music. It's magic.

The are is surprisingly urban and busy. Its industrial past has been used to build leisure activities with railways converted to cycle tracks. There is plenty to do in the outdoors. Close by the Wye valley offers better scenery and views.

Almost anything can appear in the forest could it be one or several of the wild boars or perhaps a deer runs across your path with many routes within the forest the adventures are endless

No doubt a lovely place, but there was a lack of tree varieties and terrain, which meant it was not so interesting as somewhere like the New Forest. As walkers we found the signposting and waymarks for walking routes were lacking; whereas the cycling routes were signposted with large, brightly coloured signs - what a contrast.

The Forest of Dean is a wonderful place to visit for all outdoor adventures, From abseiling, bird-watching and canoeing all the way to Zorbing. Well worth a stay.

Had a great time cycling around in the forest for a few days. Most of the paths are very accessible, with many young children cycling around in family groups to the many picnic spots along the way.

Awesome. So much history. So many walks. So much unspoilt wilderness. Really beautiful. Just go there :)
