About
Winner of a CAMRA Golden Award 2021 - Best pub in the South-West of England. A traditional cider bar selling mainly Cider, Perry, Fruit Wine & Mead. The building itself dates back to circa 1744, and affiliated with the sale of cider since the 1900's, a visit to Ye Olde Cider Bar is a step back in time. An historic landmark of Newton Abbot and popular with locals as well as visitors from the UK and across the world. We stock a fantastic array of around 50 ciders, sourced from local & independent cider producers, as well as some well known favourites from Thatchers and Westons. With a great choice on offer, there is sure to be a cider to suit everyone! We also offer over 30 fruit wines & meads. Delicious by themselves or very popular as a cooler! For non-cider/wine drinkers we have a local lager and some spirits. If you find your favourite - we also offer cider and wine to 'take-away'! Bar snacks and our famous Cheese & Onion and Ham Rolls also available.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited twice during our visit to Newton Abbot as we are huge cider fans. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and guided us through the impressive variety of available ciders. We sampled a number of different ciders and they were all excellent. We sat outside in the back garden and it was very pleasant and relaxed. We would definitely return.

When visiting Newton I always try to make time to have a quick drink in the Cider Bar. There is a great selection of real cider, and the staff are very knowledgeable and happy to advise.
It is a very atmospheric place with a lot of history, and the beer garden is pleasant on a sunny day.

Came to Newton Abbot especially to visit this pub as I had been 43 years previously. A nostalgia visit. So excited to find it. We ordered our drink only to be informed that Scottish money would not be accepted. Only place to have even questioned the money. So disappointed and frankly disgusted. It could have been a fabulous afternoon.

We visited the bar on three week day nights. I was during the covid 'drink outside' restrictions and we were lucky enough to get a covered table every night. The bar was great with lovely cider and the man on the bar knew lots about his products and was able to advise what I might like. The service was via an app, which worked well. Will definately visit again!

Had the best afternoon of our holiday in this wonderful cider bar. We sat outside with our dog in the autumn sunshine and enjoyed the ciders and mead together with a delicious lunch. The service was excellent. Hope to come back again one day

My partner and I are touring pubs in the heritage pub guide. We were told about the cider bar by friendly strangers in the Luppitt Inn near Honiton last year.

We booked a table through Facebook and arrived at 7:45. The pub is very spacious and has an old time feel. There is a lovely
bar area with hanging glasses and large barrels. We spent a couple of hours here on a Tuesday drinking specialist ciders and fruit wines.

The lady working behind the bar was an absolute gem and made some great recommendations. We were made to feel very welcome and would definitely return.

I've been visiting every year since 1997 while on holiday in Torquay, come every night and sometimes in the day when not beach weather. Difficult to think of any complements that have not been said many times before. There have been two changes of ownership in the last decade or so, and cider is still sold at a Wetherspoony price of £3 a print.
This year they had more choice than ever, most boxes neatly stacked on one side rather than cluttering up the central bar area. I like to try a half of something I havn't had for ages, then stick with my favourites, Winkleigh Sams medium, and dry.
Modernisation (horrible word!) is rightly alien to YOCB, though may I suggest cushions on the hard wooden benches would be easier on our bottoms.
