About
As Bude's original surf school, established in 1999, we have taught over 30,000 people to surf. We are inclusive and cater for everyone from beginners to advanced, focusing on superb coaching, safety and lots of fun. We offer 1:1 adaptive surfing sessions for people with disabilities and neurodiversity. Our qualified coaches are chosen for their knowledge, passion and experience. Excellent quality kit and equipment is provided. We are proud to be a Surfing England accredited and International Surfing Association surf school.

From first contacts via email & phone - fantastic, professional & friendly. Gill was warm & welcoming, knew who we were & the sessions we had booked. Everyone recognised our son's needs & made us feel at ease. Oscar who took the sessions was outstanding - positive, supportive & fun. He very quickly got a sense of our son & found wonderful ways to communicate with him. Oscar works really hard and always with a smile on his face. The sessions were the highlight of our holiday. Everything was planned around hearing of this surf school with it's adaptive sessions & it didn't disappoint. We would thoroughly recommend Big Blue Surf School & especially to parents with children with additional needs - many thanks.

We have just returned from our family holiday in Cornwall and the highlight, without any doubt were the two surfing lessons our two sons (Euan, aged 14 and Callum, aged 12) attended at Big Blue Surf School. Our family needs are unique as Callum is autistic, epileptic, non verbal with profound learning difficulties, therefore we required a specialised adaptive lesson, whilst Euan is able to attend the public lesson.
After much searching on the internet, Big Blue Surf seemed to be able to meet our needs and I sent an enquiry email. Within an hour, Gill called to gain an in-depth understanding of Callum's needs and immediately confirmed Cyril would definitely be able to ensure Callum enjoyed a successful time surfing. Gill was also intuitively empathetic to meeting Euan's needs at the same time and understood the importance of both of the boys enjoying an activity at the same time. From the word go, there were no barriers and we all felt excited about the prospect.
Our experience was special and exceeded our expectations. Cyril and the team provide a truly inclusive experience where there are no barriers. Callum was valued and as a result he thrived under their instruction and care. Euan also learnt to surf in a lesson and absolutely loved it! Trying to summarise the impact of our experience with words is tricky,

Booked a beginner's adult group lesson at short notice and had a great experience start to finish. I was terrible but I always knew I would be!! The instructor was friendly and helpful and encouraging throughout. They were really mindful of tide and wind and we felt totally safe and looked after whilst they tried their best for us to have best experience. Capped the group at 4 so felt personalised despite being a group. Communication was excellent in advance and payment seemed totally reasonable for our experience. Had a great time. Highly recommended.

This guys are brilliant. Would highly recommend. They took so much time to help us. Rosie was fantastic- I’m getting on a bot and she really helped me out, giving me pointers and tips till eventually I stood up! 😎 Lewis really invested time in my son, helping him get out to the waves and really encouraged him- he had him standing and riding waves in no time . I was so grateful for his help - we were in a group and I felt really comfortable leaving my son to it with him. He’s only 8 and not the strongest swimmer as of yet but Lewis was on it . Can’t thank them enough! So much fun and well worth it!

Awesome first surf lesson for our 2 girls aged 8 & 12! From the initial contact with Gill who was super friendly and helpful to the actual lesson itself, I would highly recommend this surf school. Cyril was an excellent instructor and the girls really enjoyed their lesson. They were standing up catching waves in no time, both my daughters said he was great at giving instructions, easy to get along with and he made it a really fun experience - thanks Cyril, we’ll be back for another lesson soon!

I wanted to say a massive thank you to both Cyril and Celyn for their 1:1 adaptive surfing lesson for our son (who has autism) and daughter (anxiety.)
Cyril made our son feel so at ease he was able to participate with his support, something that would have been unheard of a couple of years ago. Cyril gave him time to get used to his surroundings, the feel of the board. He also noticed that a board with handles might give my son more reassurance. Nothing was too much trouble. As a result he was able to do it at his pace and had lots of fun. He said he would try it again and it was the best part of our holiday.
Celyn also made our daughter feel at ease giving her time to get used to being on the board and gradually working up to her managing to be on the board by herself. She said it was “awesome” and would definitely come back.
I cannot thank them enough for being able to give them the opportunity to try surfing in a safe surroundings and lessening their anxiety. They also put us at ease to know that the kids would be safe.
I will definitely recommend them to other people.

Absolutely amazing!! We booked lessons for the whole family, my youngest is 8 so I was nervous at first and wanted to stand and watch rather than get involved. I spoke to the lady on the phone when booking - think her name was Gill? - and she was so reassuring. Anyway from the moment we rocked up, you could tell that they were in total control and knew their stuff!! To be able to learn how to surf and not have to worry about my little ones was such a treat, I really did feel like I was on my holiday 😎 also whilst in the water waiting for the waves they explained about safety in the sea and how to spot dangers. So glad we did this at the start of our holiday, as it really gave my whole family a much better understanding of the sea! Those days at the beach become a lot less stressful.
Can't thank them enough! Was an amazing experience and will 100% book up again, just so much to learn!!
Ps also I did rock up with our little dog, to which they were more than happy to sit with whilst we surfed. (I was trying to use it as an excuse, but they see straight through it and got me in a wet suit in no time! 😂)

An absolutely brilliant first surfing lesson for my two teenage sons and their cousins. They thoroughly enjoyed the session and by the end all four of them were standing up! The instructors were patient and kind and helped all of them individually, ensuring each of them got the maximum out of the lesson. The website and communication with the team was also excellent before hand. I would thoroughly recommend the Big Blue Surf School to anyone thinking about having a go at surfing! Thank you to everyone involved.

Second time we've used BB. Consistently personable and professional for novices of all ages. Well brought up, well-mannered post teens restoring faith in youth culture by being decent, efficient and customer focused. We all gave our experience five stars.
