Bude Sea Pool is a part-natural, partially man-made tidal swimming pool on the beach at this popular seaside town in North Cornwall. It was built in the 1930s under the cliffs of Summerleaze Beach to provide safe bathing in sea water, but away from the dangerous Atlantic currents in the bay. Measuring around 91m by 45m, it is topped up at high tide by the Atlantic Ocean. Since 2012 it is managed by the Friends of Bude Sea Pool, a not-for-profit charity that took over the facility when public funding was withdrawn. The spacious Pool provides plenty of room for paddling or serious swimming: inflatables, snorkels, surfboards and even scuba divers are welcome - just be considerate of other users, please. Bude Sea Pool is open throughout the year and is FREE for all to enjoy. Lifeguards are on duty at peak times. Children must be accompanied at Bude Sea Pool at all times.

Got there early in the morning in mid summer and was able to put in a good triathlon training swim in the quiet, it does get much busier later in the day, so if you looking for a swim go early.

I am just back from a day at the pool it was fabulous. Its big enough to swim lengths or widths at the deep end without bumping into people. Water clean and clear. A tiny bit warmer than sea. The sea there is great, but...More

Sometimes, swimming in the sea involves too much walking and wading to get to deep enough water, and then the waves can disrupt your swimming. The Tidal Pool is just great to swim in. No sand and mostly it's deep water, but for some that's...More

We really enjoyed our time here. The pool was warm and our toddlers loved paddling in the shallows then watching the waves roll in later. It’s a beautiful spot and locally run. You can buy small souvenirs to support it. Well worth a visit.

Cornwall’s beaches can be a bit iffy if you’re not an experienced swimmer (tides, rocks etc) so if you fancy a splash about and somewhere safe to take the children, the Sea Pool is ideal. We visited twice last week. It’s free to use the...More

It's amazing to see the progress and support bude sea pool has gained in the last few years. As a regular on holiday here I love spending my time around the pool. Especially as it's warmer than the sea! Should be proud bude!

Went for a dip at the end of a long day at the beach. It’s a lovely pool and brilliant to see it was funded by the locals of Bude. It is however very ‘refreshing’, I would recommend that if you intend to swim for...More

The Sea Pool is in full sun from lunchtime onwards but if the tide is out there is a little shade by the cliffs on the adjoining Summerleaze Beach. Beach umbrellas are available from the Beach Office or nearby Life's a Beach... More

I would say yes, the sea and the pool temperature is still only around 13 degrees, so your swim will be much more enjoyable with a wet suit. There are several places in Bude where you can hire wet suits for the day at low... More
