Visit this church and see the history of the village and of course the Sykes Family, easy parking near the church or go into the house car park and visit the house as well.

We visited here after going round Sledmere house, it is a nice enough church but if you didn't get time to include it on a visit to the village then you should not feel you have missed out.

This is the parish church in Sledmere. The only feature of interest for me was the ornate covering for the font. The rest of the church was quite ordinary.

Called in at St Mary's after visiting Sledmere House, and discovering that Tatton Sykes had instigated its restoration. Externally it isn't really anything too special, although it has some interesting features such as gargoyles and other nice details, but the interior is beatiful with a fantastic tiled floor, and nicely carved pews, rood screen and pulpit. Only the graveyard which... More

This is the first of the 19 Sykes churches chiefly on the Yorkshire Wolds, rebuilt or restored by Sir Tatton Sykes 4Bt and the 5th Baronet of the same name, between 1856 & 1913. St Mary’s is the largest of such churches and regarded as the grandest. The outside is quite unexciting but the interior makes up for this with... More
