So we came for a special 70th birthday in a group ranging from 15 to 72 - my father is a great fan of history and wanted to bring his grandson one Saturday at 5:30 - they were refused entry because of the age of the 15 year old - my father was so disappointed that he couldn’t show his grandson the historic pub - most disappointed

I just loved the experience of entering this 'parallel universe'. The landlady Sara greeted us cheerfully and ushered our group into a gas lit room and chucked a bucket of coal onto the Victorian range. We thoroughly enjoyed four good pints each in a cosy atmosphere, and the Samuel Smith experience (no phones, no music, no swearing) was very special.
If this appeals to you, remember to bring cash as cards are not accepted. I'm looking forward to going back. 😀

Lovely to go back, this was the favourite pub for ground and aircrew from RAF Leconfield when the Lightning fighters roared overhead in the sixties. First heard a Bob Dylan play on a Juke Box in the frot parlour. It has not changed its flavour, brilliant place to visit with real history.

Went into Nellies atmospheric pub i have been numerous times in the past. I love the interior and authentic gas lighting. This my first return for over 4 years the pub looked dirty and unloved. The fires were lit in only three parts of the pub. Friendly barmaid the Sams best bitter was undrinkable tasted flat and sour almost vinegar. I had a stout which tasted metallic both beers were poor quality.the gents toilets were disgusting. This pub needs looking after and money spent on it to return it to its past glory.

Absolutely terrible experience. Rude staff, stupid, outdated rules. Was ‘told off’ for looking at my phone when I got an email notification. Phone was on silent so it wasn’t disturbing anyone (not that there were many customers in to disturb, though that’s hardly surprising considering the attitude of the staff). What’s even worse is my friends - who are from the North East - ended up having words with the landlady about her rubbish attitude to be met with the comment ‘you’re not even from round here’. Xenophobia at its best and not something that you’d expect in the 21st century. When my friends said that they’d be writing a bad review in TripAdvisor she said ‘well that’ll be a first’. Obviously doesn’t check the reviews as there are loads that mention the attitude of the staff. Laughable how you get the option to add photos to your review of this place when you’re not allowed to touch your phone! Never again!!

Popped in here on my birthday weekend with wife and friends. From the outset we were made to feel completely unwelcome. The bar staff and a angers attitudes we absolutely shocking. We sat at a table, even the punters looked miserable as sin all sat in silence. So first we got wrong as we were a little jovial and having a chat which appeared to be frowned up on. Then the best part was because of their no phone policy, we got wrong for having a phone on the table, not being used. A friend got a notification flash up on his screen and lifted the phone, but did not use it. They even had the audacity to go and gmcheck the CCTV to prove someone had used their phone. Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous. We had words and basically it sounds like they did everything they could to get us out of there actually stating "we weren't from around here". I now know how it feels to be racially abused as this is a very similar scenario living in fear of us unfriendly folk from the north east. When we confronted the staff as to why I had been accused of using my phone when I hadn't, they just lied to us and had horrible arrogance to go with it. Staff had no hospitality skills, if this is the olde Worlde experience you can keep it. Ruined what was a great day in lovely Beverley. Having been a few other pubs afterwards, bar staff heard us talking about the White Horse and all of them seemed to know what goes on there so we aren't the only ones to have a similar experience by the sounds of it. Oh and when I said to the manager I'd be leaving a damming review she stated it would be the first. Having checked TripAdvisor it would appear not, quite a few bad recent reviews from what I can see. Massive change is needed. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

I never liked the place when I was at Uni. Everyone raved about the old world experience. If you came from London it was an old bird with attitude. At least she was a laugh. This new lot think they are keeping up tradition. Mugs.

What on earth has gone wrong with "NELLIES". Have spent many an hour in here and was the place to be, but not anymore. No music, that was taken out years ago.Now you can't use your mobile, unless you go outside in the pouring rain. I was pointed to a beer mat telling me that it stated no use of mobiles, no laptops, otherwise if i was caught by the landlord i would be banned. No wonder it was dead as a "DODO. Come back Anna and show those in charge how to get a once great pub back on track. And don't blame the pandemic, its just poor management. I suggest the landlords and Samuel Smiths have a jolly down to the Sun Inn, none of this if you use your mobile indoors that you will be banned. Wake up and smell the coffee Sam!
Dear old Nellie would turn in her grave if she knew what was going on here. So, its down to the Sun Inn for me from now until things change at the once great place "NELLIES".

Being a local lady for 45 years decided to show my new coloured partner one of the oldiest pubs in Beverley was confronted by owner that couɔd not park in carpark while waiting for some other friends to come off bus to have a few drink,
. .

SHE WAS VERY RUDE and made my partner uncomfortable and not welcome at all to stay as soon we got out of the car so decided not to stay for drinks.
