Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in one of the estate cottages and took advantage of the wonderful scenery and walks. Quality cottages and well marked walking routes for all abilities through to long distance and Munro walks. Excellent base to visit Ballatar Aboyne Ballmoral castle and Braemar. Estate service excellent and welcoming!

Wonderful surroundings. Very helpful caretaker. We did not miss anything in our charming Garden Cottage and look forward to coming back in summer 2025.

Good choice of waymarked trails, nice and quiet when we visited. Dogs need to be on leads in summer so as not to disturb capercaillie.

Smallish and very accessible Reserve. A few choices of trails and well marked out. The paths drain well, so despite recent poor weather we weren’t muddy or wet! Decent sized car park that’s very bumpy; the little fiat says “ouch”!

Lovely walks, we came here after i had already dragged the family around 2 other walks so my 10 year old was sick ha! But he really liked the flat areas and the river. We did the Knockie viewpoint walk which is just over 2 miles. It has a very steep incline on gravely paths so may not be suitable for everyone.

Absolutely love Glen Tanar. So many nice walks and the rangers are very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to get up to the Loch for some fishing.

Enjoyed a pleasant walk here on a sunny autumn day. Unfortunately the visitor centre was closed but managed to navigate our way around on foot. Climbed to the Knockie viewpoint and walked around the estate. Just the place to blow the cobwebs away and get away from it all

Glen Tanar itself is a stunning location. This review is specifically relating to the Equestrian Centre. I have ridden here 3 times now and loved it every time. I am not a regular rider and therefore most of my experiences have been on holiday hacks often with horses that ignore the rider and just follow the one in front. This is not the case here. They are well schooled and the guides are friendly and happy to offer advice for the less experienced rider, which I found very helpful. The rides they offer take you through beautiful woodland and, on the longer rides, up hills with excellent views. I cannot recommend it enough.

This place is amazing there are set walks you can go on at the visitors centre and lots of information there. It is a beautiful unspoilt area. Great for walking, cycling, running and horse riding.
