The only chalk carving we managed to visit
Sep 2020
We did want to see a chalk carved image while visiting Dorset in May 2019 and were driven to Ormington to see the White Horse. The location is a bit difficult to locate, so I suggest you make sure you have directions before you go. It is also tricky to find parking so be prepared for that. Access is from the back side of the village of Ormington along a walking trail to the east. After a short hike along a hedge row and through several fences, the horse can be seen on the left on the hillside above. It is interesting how much work the locals must have done to carve the horse originally and to have maintained it ever since. But if you wish to see a chalk carving and are staying locally, it's worth a visit.

Spacious campsite.

Wonderful facilities, very clean.
Plenty of toilet roll.!!
Only slight query: the website needs updating..( it says dogs to be kept on leads) yet a sign says children and dogs roam free!!! And also 10 minutes walk to the beach ( more like 30!!)
Only one downside ( not campsite fault) a very large group of people had dogs roaming free and attacking each other and they very selfishly played their music very loud until 4.30am with no consideration to others!!
Apart from that..I would 100% recommend this site, beautiful views

Somewhere you could stop for a quick photo to say you've been there
Sep 2020
Somewhere you could stop for a quick photo to say you've been there but its literally 5 minutes & even the carpark was blocked off. Don't go out of your way for it.

Quick Stop
Oct 2020
I noticed the White Horse whilst driving past and we turned around so I could go and take a few photos. Our campervan was too large for the viewing point car park so I nipped out and had a quick look as my husband was turning.
Certainly wouldn't go out of my way to see but well worth a quick stop and read the information boards.

Worth a stop and a photo if you're driving that way
Sep 2020
Best seen from the viewpoint at the side of the road. When we visited, it was fading away into the landscape and looked like it needed some maintenance. There is a pleasant walk through the countryside that allows closer access, but we felt that the five minutes we spent looking at it from a distance before we did the walk was probably enough.

Nice easy going campsite.
Aug 2020 • Friends
Booked this in advance £10 per person per night. With £10 extra for a car for the stay.
We stayed here for 2 nights in total.

Easy going campsite although toilets in each field are smelly! So don't pitch up next to them.
Morning entertainment was the cars coming in and out of the site sliding up and down the road.
Kids can run around just be wary of cars travelling across the fields. All in all its good! I would recommend, we didn't have any problems :)

Not really an attraction that I fell the need to make a specific visit to, I think you can appreciate it when walking or driving on the area- can be seen from Portland, so an impressive construction

OSMINGTON WHITE HORSE
Oct 2018 • Solo
I had a week holiday in the area at the end of October 2018. I wanted to see the white horse, which I have found on Google map, and it was pretty close to the cottage I rented. To be honest I did not find a bigger viewpoint, just a little turn down from the main road, leads to a campsite. In this cross there is room enough for 2-3 cars parking and have a quick look. So that's what I did. Because on the other side of the main road (A353 Preston Road) the land runs downhill to the beach, so I unlikely believe that any better viewpoint existed in the area.
Also, there is an information plate and the figure seems quite new, but definitely not ancient. If I am right it is more than hundred years, but a kind of "new-age". How I read it was replaced and renovated just recently. Thanks for the volunteers worked on the
project. I took a few very good pictures,(will be upload, once the spot is listed), but not much to do around. So it is a little spot to stop for a short while, because during drive we can hardly enjoy the view to the hillside, but it worth to see.
